Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Can you find a positive Intel headline in 2020?...

  • I mean outside of Circuit or the company’s press releases:

Bloomberg 7/24: “ Intel ‘Stunning Failure’ Heralds End of Era for U.S. Chip Sector”

Bloomberg 10/22: “ Intel Tumbles on Data Center Sales Decline, Tepid Forecast”

MarketWatch 10/26: “ Intel stock slides toward lowest close in more than 16 months”

Protocol 11/23: “ Intel shuts down its AR/VR volumetric capture stage”

CNBC 12/7: “ Intel shares slump on news that Apple's new chips will be available in 2021”

The Street 12/21: “ Microsoft's Reported Plans to Design Its Own CPUs:“

Windows Central 12/21: “ AMD's upcoming mobile chip might outperform powerful Intel desktop CPUs”

For years, frustrated Intel employees and ex-employees have ranted about Intel and it’s challenges moving forward. Some of that may have been driven by sour grapes, but it is sure seeming real now.

So where’s the plan to turn things around?

If you spin those acquisition stories really, REALLY, hard...

Not sure if move to fabless will happen, but people who work there are divesting, or should be IMO. It's pretty hard to trust anything given the past decade.

Spinning off the Fab to become a fabless company.

@2jmw+18AXBt2B speak for yourself lol. everyone leaving should dump all the garbage stock, liquidate that worthless pension, and talk the few good people you know still there to leave.

OP asked where Intel’s plan is to address the decline. Is there anyone who still works at Intel that has an answer?

Most ex-employees have moved on but still have some stock in Intel and friends that work there, so the separation isn’t 100% — hence the curiosity.

Except for the essential manufacturing workers doing the real work. Kinda tone deaf considering how hard a year it's been for them. After already being sh– on bc the spent the money on Olympics, AI cars, charging bowls and drones instead of EUV 5 yrs ago.

@1zuf+18AXBt2B by definition the people who leave are better IC than the politicians who stay

I will give one very positive headline, intel is still operating during the pandemic. You have to admit it is impressive to see how the transition to working 100% from home could be achieved so well. Things went so well that I bet the way we work will never be the same again.

but it does seem juvenile, and one has to wonder about the past and present technical contributions these types really offer. The glee in watching a struggling company that once employed you is nothing to be particularly proud of. My 2 cents.

Once you leave you will realize the fun.

It’s sort of a guilty pleasure. A weird satisfaction to see the kind of disaster one has freed oneself from. You will get it when your time comes.

Also during this holiday and covid people are bored.

It’s not really that inexplicable as you might think now.

It is funny to see all these people who supposedly “left intel long time ago, to better companies” still hanging out and writing to intellayoff.com site. Come on. Who are you kidding.

If you indeed left intel long time ago, I think the point of leaving is to leave intel mentally. Why don’t you move on, smarten up. or stop lying.

Also, contrary to what you believe, and to my surprise and disappointment, some of the intel incompetent a–holes not only pass google, Facebook, Apple phone screens, they actually get good jobs at those companies.

goal from leadership is to extract every cent they can from the sinking ship and pulling their golden parachutes and letting the staffers rot. any employee that does not recognize this needs to get slapped upside the head.

I wasn’t talking about you literally. Just to the ones still here. I left a long time ago as well.

OP here — my point was that Intel is in real trouble now, it isn’t speculative any more. And I’m curious from those still working there if anyone in leadership has a plan.

We occasionally see posts from trolling Intel fanboys, and but they don’t try to address this. If there truly is no plan, then everyone (not just the next wave of BE/IRS) should should be sharpening their marketable-beyond-Intel skills and preparing for alternatives.

Although you might be exaggerating and generalizing a bit, I will agree for the sake of discussion.

My point is - you might not be ready now, but why are you giving up trying? You should do your best to improve your chances of landing a better offer. What good is there to hopelessly wait for Intel to turn around? You are a free person. Go give it a fight instead of being a spectator.

@izg+18AXBt2B most intel employees are incapable of lasting five minutes in a phone screen with a competent company

As a low level employee why would it matter?
Just find a better job.
There is zero rationale to stick to a sinking company unless you are the owner.

You work for Intel? And AMD is shining so bright? Just join AMD. Or spend time preparing.

Looking for positive headlines is a complete waste of time.
