Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

UK REDUNDANCY & PIP THREAD

This is a thread for those in the United Kingdom who want their questions answered or simply shed light on Redundancy / Career Progression / PIP / Plan B i.e. Leaving EM and alike.

I am Ms "EM for Life" with 10+ years of Top 3rd ranking in commercial roles and 2 expat assignments under my belt, establishing if the GRASS is GREENER (enough) outside EM to make a move in 2021.

The question is not whether the grass is greener elsewhere. The question is more simple. Is there grass elsewhere? Because Exxon is a barren wasteland...a dry desert created by the worst company Culture and management I have ever experienced (worked for 3 O&G operators). I quit Exxon last year and moved to a place that had grass and boy was the grass green! Exxon is the Nokia of oil and gas. With its incompetent management and focus on processes rather than people it will wither away and lose relevance in this changing world. I have to say it also is the most unsafe place I’ve worked. The hard working people are great but management are clueless about how to correctly maintain a plant. Sometime I wondered how we hadn’t k–led on site but I do hope LUCK continues and people are not injured. Shambles of a company.

Apologies for my ignorance, but has the impact to the UK staff been determined? What share of all UK employees are impacted? Recognizing that refineries may be part of other programs (i.e., asset sales), what portion of the staff is "under immediate threat"? EM is a "US (Houston)" centric company, so we tend to forget our friends on the other side of the pond.
Hopefully your fates are better than ours have been in 2020!

Please stop blaming everything on employees who took foreign assignments. I had 2 foreign assignments in my 30-year career and worked my @ss of on both of them. Yes - it was nice to have the expat bonus, a couple of other perks and to experience life in another country, but I reckon the company still got its money’s worth out of me.

If you want to know who’s wasted all of the money and opportunities, look no further than the Board, the Management Committee, the Executive Compensation Committee and the corporate research departments. The Board are responsible for series of disastrous strategic decisions. The Management Committee cheers them on (waiting for their turn) while preparing excuses for failures. The Compensation Committee rubber stamps salary and stock awards regardless of performance.

The research departments are just expensive indulgences whose work could have been farmed out to 3rd parties for much cost effective delivery of the same (or better) results. CSR in particular is a black hole of waste.

@1ejf+18CjnvhI. I think you'll find it was exactly the same in the uk...having far higher paid us expats coming to the uk on massive relocation packages, and who used the 5 years as an extended european vacation.

American remembers the UK psychopath expats who came to USA to syphon the great oil wealth.

It was amazing to see UK employees coming to US on expat assignments for years and all they did was online shopping while in their offices and mall shopping while they were not at work.

Sounds like you need to start looking for a new gig there Buttercup. I hope you have developed some real skills to sell. Being top1/3 at EM by itself is not a saleable skill.
