Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Whining - no skills

So many posts here are just whining about where their choices in life led them to. You wouldn't be so scared of being laid off if you had a marketable skill-set.

When the leadership takes reductions in all the benefits and pay would I even consider their viewpoint. I’ve lost a lot of coworkers due to their incompetence and arrogance so, save me the pity party. Randy and Stanky should have been let go a long time ago after many failures, they failed badly but haven’t faced any consequences.

The were too arrogant and wouldn’t listen to anyone outside their sycophant bubble, thousands have paid for it. Insanity is repeating the same mistakes and now the company is over leveraged, having fire sales and reducing benefits for employees. Their solution is to blame employees and create a toxic work environment.

Yes we are angry!

In the spirit of the new year, I'd like us all to consider it from Randall's and Stanky's point of view. They had a brilliant plan to boost the flailing fortunes of AT&T: pivot to a new technology adjacent to their area of expertise: streaming TV. A few minor missteps, like overpaying for DirecTV, but nothing major.

Everyone is complaining about them, when all they are trying to do is build a better company!

I bought a degree from Paul Quinn College. Where do I apply?

But I have my nano degrees, I’m ready to pivot, transform, progress, act faster, bolder, step on the gas, customer rules etc.... I haven’t read my email this week for the newest inspirational and transformative message.

AT@T rated #1 worst managed company by 247wallst. “The first was the buyout of DirecTV, which was never fully integrated into AT&T’s broader customer bases and is shedding subscribers. The buyout of Time Warner was probably a worse decision.” No wonder the washed up managers stay unemployed.

I assume it’s your marketable skill-set that’s led you to this site just so you could rag on people and boost your sagging ego?

To all the pro-management trolls in this thread - there is a reason AT&T was selected as the worst managed large company in America. And that reason is not the workers. It's the management.

Most workers here are skilled and have a strong work ethic, When they are laid of they usually land on their feet and find another job, often something much better.

You can't say the same about managers. We've seen numerous managers get laid off and a year later, they are still looking for work. It's been common knowledge in the corporate world for a long time that AT&T managers are completely lacking in marketable skills.

Your bashing against the workers of this company sounds like projection to me.

To previous post I say, you don’t have a clue.

The previously successful companies of AT&T (Ma Bell/Baby Bell version), Time Warner and DirectTV have been around for a long time with very experienced and professional workforces. The dynamics changed when SBC became the owner of all three and instituted their style and toxic culture of top down micromanaging.

When Randall Stephenson and sycophants came into to power is the day this company started a downhill slid. AT&T has had to pivot, upgrade employee skills or hire to meet changing business/technology and aging workforce for over 130 years. The difference now is the current leadership has steered it way off course.

Have you ever considered that the company isn't flourishing because we don't have the right mix of skills and experience in our workforce? There's very little management can do then - the strategy is right but the execution is off. This is why we need so many layoffs, and why we need to keep hiring at the same time.

Dear OP, stating facts is not whining. If you don't know the difference, by all means stay with this company and see where your own lacking skill of recognizing reality will take you. Methinks you'll be in good company with the other delusional executives. Have fun on the way down.

The only thing the upper management team is skating to is their own interest. It sure isn’t in the company or employee’s interest and the results speak loudly to that on all accounts.

Stock is way down while the rest of the market is rocketing, assets sold left and right to service debt.
Employee numbers and many benefits reduced, working conditions have become toxic. The disempowered employee is seen as a liability and not an asset. The tone deaf, micromanaging upper management continue to enrich themselves with no accountability or reductions in their benefits and packages. The parasite investment group even jumped ship (at a loss) recently because they weren’t making any money. The dividend wasn’t increased for the first time in years.

This company should have been flourishing during this unfortunate pandemic because it’s in their wheelhouse. More people are installing, upgrading and using the internet, cellphones and watching content than ever before while being stuck at home.

They are more concerned about narratives, social change, redundant meetings and messages than actually doing business. They don’t even select the most qualified person for a position anymore. The selection process now goes through too many filters of gender, race, s-xual orientation, sycophant status, etc.. qualifications and experience are now afterthoughts. Inclusion is important but this is a business not a social club.

So, troll us again how wonderful this management team has done. They aren’t even in the ice rink, let alone skating to the puck. If they are trying to modernize and the company is debt laden, as leaders shouldn’t they first be looking at their benefits and packages to be reduced and right-sized? I thought they were trying to be environmentally aware but they still have a fleet of corporate jets, pilots, individual cars, golf memberships and masseurs, spending millions in Dallas to renovate their offices, etc... Sounds a little tone deaf and self righteous don’t you think?

You might have helped build this place (with Management's guidance), but those days are long past. The company needs to skate to where the puck is going, not where it is (or where it was!)

@fbn+18FQmPMk Maybe you should schedule another useless conference call and ask everyone what their favorite cookie is. We'll handle the heavy lifting. And while you're at it, create another cable failure so you can pad the numbers..

I find the OP offensive but I know his post won't get taken down. So here it goes. I do have marketable skills and left on my own and I was over 50. I have been to two fortune 500 companies since I left the nwo cesspool att and they were totally night and day in every way than nwo cesspool att. Both of them are actually profitable and actually let you change and transform instead of just talk about them like stank and rand.

Leaving was the best decision I made. I am working on cloud cutting edge stuff that is done the way it is suppose to be done not the b–tardized way nwo att cesspool does by fitting a round peg in a square hole and call it innovation.

I hope anybody that is thinking of working there runs far far far far far away and don't look back. nwo cesspool att doesn't compare to the companies I went in any way, shape, or form. They are in a different league and are outstanding companies nothing like nwo cesspool att.

Happy new year I hope you enjoy surviving next years 3 or 4 surplus events. I haven't heard the word layoff since I left nwo cesspool att.

What a joke OP. I got laid off this year - after requesting it. I would not have been laid off otherwise. I worked hard until my last day / spent some overtime hours making sure my work transitioned smoothly to my now ex-teammates because I respect them and want them to succeed.
Why did I request the layoff? Nothing to do with my job security, job satisfaction, or skill and everything to do with seeing where the company as a whole was going, knowing my pension in 2021 would likely be higher than in 2022 or even 2023 (and now with the lost medical in retirement, even beyond that).
Again LOL to your "whining about choices in life". I chose to come to this company back in the 1980s. I have no regrets. The AT&T of the 1980s, 90s, 00s, and for a few years into the 10s was a great place to work for many of us (myself included).
I think perhaps you are projecting in your statement - projecting about how sad a person you are and how poor your decisions have been. Don't put your loser choices on the rest of us.

The reality is that this company has changed in almost every facet of the business over the past two decades. And the pace of change has accelerated at lightening speed in the past 10 years. Employees must choose how to manage their individual careers. You can do the hard work of researching where/what jobs you desire (internal/external) and up skill to meet the needs of businesses today. Another option is to whine about how things aren’t working for you and how the company doesn’t care about you... If this is you, do something about it. For pity’s sake.
The company isn’t the same one it was in the 20th century. Accept the change or do the work to move out. Your choice.

Trying to memorize a new acronym every time a retread is moved or promoted. It makes them so special and is a value added skill, bless their heart!

Don’t you just love all the added compliance and policy that only support a bloated staff with very little if any benefit for the company. They are mainly used as a tools to harass, discipline, layoff or fire someone.

I fail to see how this post is not taken down. It is just trolling. It is not informative, and has nothing to do with layoffs.

Trolling people who come to a site to learn about layoffs or company moves to accelerate layoffs is a pretty sad low class move by whomever is doing it. This entire post and the one prior should be removed.

Plenty of people with marketable skill sets get laid off everyday just like everyone else. You are not very intelligent at all.

Management or not very few people that work for Bellsouth/AT&t have a skill set, no one outside of the company is interested in what you did.
