Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Exxon - Focus Areas to Improve

Exxon troubles are due to many many reasons including failing on the fundamentals.
From what I have seen, one of the failed fundamentals is the global practice of internal appointments resulting in the wrong people moving into important roles. We need to adopt a practice of promoting local asset level experienced and knowledgeable people. Positions should be advertised internally and HR , not engineers, given some power within the selection process. Appointments made quietly have left dedicated experienced personnel baffled, demoralized, bewildered and disappointed and demotivated. STOP it now and page that road to success. This is a no brainer. Let's get back to the basics.

ExxonMobil continues to promote narcissism I see. Now too many of the people still employed truly believe they are that good so next lay-off will hit them harder.

Interesting that William Weldon is on the board. He came from J&J who have championed decentralized command.

Lol.. trust.. we don’t need employees’ trust for EM to do well. We have performance assessment to keep them on their toes! Brilliant idea by DW.. and his minions are so thankful it was implemented during the pandemic.. just what we needed!

The first and obvious issue is being fixated on quarterly results when a long term focus is needed.

Restructuring the company and working towards a culture of decentralized command and trust is needed.

Oil is the life blood of the company now and for a long time, but parallel to this the company needs to add other streams of income. This means not investing in new projects oil related but rather acquiring businesses to hedge oil.

In other words, everyone but YOU is useless. Such a mo–nic uneducated response. People like you are so intellectually dishonest. Gripe, complain, bash, ridicule, repeat. Have you ever actually made a positive contribution to anything in life? Miserable disgruntled people that hate their lives and are jealous of everyone around them. Can’t believe any company actually hired you, but you won’t last long. So long!

For starters 10 root problems that need fixing:

  1. Fire all TTLs. Useless.
  2. Fire at least half the supervisors. No value.
  3. Eliminate middle management. Totally redundant.
  4. Promote people to leadership positions based on competence, not confidence.
  5. Eliminate chiefs. Overpaid and useless.
  6. Decentralize the business. The god pod serves no purpose other than self preservation and milking the corporation.
  7. Cut the dividend.
  8. Keep people, particularly managers in positions long enough that they are accountable for their messes.
  9. Get rid of ultimate potential assessment. No other corporation does this.
  10. Evaluate people based on actual performance, not perception.

Yes I agree, get all the EMIT folks in important positions. They are "agile" and speaks "technology" that does not relate to production or drilling. So this will make perfect sense !

Yes, let’s all rally to give HR a bigger role in the company.

Fail.
