My great great grandpa got a degree in Whaling Economics back in 1877 - from Harvard.
He eventually went into the dry goods business.

But - then - the whaling folk were not well-organized.
Didn't have those lobbying and technology-k–lings skills at the time.
People just wanted their lamps lit back then.
But science moves on - and will continue to do so.

Difference between whaling and oiling: Whaling had about 40 good years as an industry until an economical and viable replacement was found for it. Oil has been an industry for about 150 years, and there has yet to found an economic and viable replacement for it.
