Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Tuition Reimbursement 1 year waiting period to go away!

Right now when starting at AT&T you have to wait 1 year for tuition reimbursement. On our benefits package call today, they said they are considering eliminating that and letting new hires get it from day 1. With the other benefits enhancements for new hires, the goal is to being new blood into AT&T. My only worry is that money comes at the expense of benefits cuts for those 20 years +

listen Post ID @mhn+18LBFliU – exactly what someone else posted. You better s— it up because you might be technically savvy now but you will constantly have to keep up-to-date. On your own dime. Because this company will work you to the bone and anything you get now will be drastically cut over time. What you don't get – and apparently the company doesn't get is this: for those of us who have made this company a career we have had loyalty to the place and, until the past few years, been quite proud of our company. I'll give it 50-60 hour work weeks for a project I believe in. But not when I'm constantly kicked in the teeth – which this new management does every few months. KID: you'll be leaving the company in a year or so. Then the company needs to replace you. Hopefully, you will take the money from all the companies you job-hop and save and wisely invest. If those investments go belly up due to almost certain economic bubbles or you don't save . . . you'll be looking back in 20,30,40 years and wonder what the heck happened and why you're working 2 or 3 jobs just to make ends meet. That's the world we are living in.

I’m an old timer and currently using tuition reimbursement. Got to be prepared for my gig work after T lays me off. Getting my training on their dime makes that bitter pill go down a little easier.

To the person addressing the “senior citizens” still with AT&T: I sure hope you are saving and very wisely investing LARGE portions of your paycheck to cover your living and healthcare expenses for the time when YOU are old, not so sharp, and replaced by the newer smarter model resource. Remember - don’t trust your investment advisors, your employers, parents, or anyone else because apparently everything you think is true now will change by the time you actually need the resources you thought you were planning for. I wish you good health, heaven forbid you get sick.

"complain to your management about Randall getting $274K per month. Your parents raised a entitled brat and failed you. "

Yet on this board we see endless posts complaining that the company cut some benefit they believe they are entitled to, mistakenly. The company doesn't owe you anything other than your paycheck, benefits are just that, and can be cut at any time.

We have thousands of senior citizens hanging on for a paycheck. We’re supposed to be a damn technology company, how is that ever possible with this workforce?

There should be a pay curve where your pay decreases after a certain point, there absolutely should not be any incentive to hang on and collect a paycheck for 30+ years, while also being the highest paid employees in the company. These people with 35-40+ years is absolutely ridiculous. You cannot convince me at that age you’re as technologically advanced and valuable as someone half your age. That’s the hard reality.

And I don’t want to hear about the experience factor, we aren’t in the Middle Ages where it takes 30 years to perfect the art of blacksmithing or some other trade. A technology company needs sharp minds that can think fast and aren’t afraid of change, not people that feel like they’re entitled to more than what they are worth and don’t know how to retire when they should.

The company is so obviously favoring new employees over existing employees with tenure in all of its policies. I need about five more years and will s— it up till then if I am not forced out. Luckily I report to a good manager who will work to protect good people.
