Not a clean design, looks like a mess. Alternator is mounted way too low for off road vehicle.
Has Ford forgot how to do system engineering?
Wrangler 2.5 liter places the alternator on the upper right hand corner of the engine (facing the Wrangler, this would be the driver's side) and the 4.0 liter places it on the upper left hand corner (the passenger side when facing the engine).
These are good locations when crossing streams.
Cooling is often challenging, probably many tweaks to cooling system design to keep engine from overheating.
