Thread regarding JPMorgan Chase & Co. layoffs

Is the grass greener?

Is there anyone who has left that can say it’s better since you’ve been gone? Did anyone just quit and find a replacement soon afterwards or did it take months? Once you’ve landed something were you satisfied at the decision you made to leave? I’m thinking of leaving but I know other financial institutions have the same issues.

I volunteered for the 2020 August RIF, and I started a new job 4 weeks later. The grass is greener! I should have left years ago, i'm so much happier. My suggestion is to volunteer for a RIF and get paid for leaving.
I received a year's salary.

Heck yeah the grass is greener. I got a promo and 25 % raise at another bank. Post out and see if you can get some of that green!

Yea I just quit flat out due to the toxic culture in this old tech. I got 6 offers in 2 weeks. I took an extra 2 weeks off to get some R&R. In any case I absolutely love my new job!! I am so glad to be working in current tech in great companies! Huge Salary increase, bonus structure, benefits. Also Position a promotion! Love the new job, this one stunk! So glad to start new year in a new position!

Good luck to everyone!

I got a job with a smaller bank. Higher Salary + Bonus + Permanent Work From Home + VP Title. They have a better selection of health insurance plans, not like the Chase one-size-fits-all plan. Life is good. Working for a smaller company has pluses and minuses, but I don't miss having to go through so many other groups to get my job done. Not only do the middle managers at Chase not help you succeed, many times they make it more difficult to complete your job. At a smaller bank you own it. That has its pluses and minuses. If you like to fly under the radar and just show up to work and do the minimum than Chase is the right place for you.

Over 10 yrs of my life at Chase, I thought I’d be a lifer. Well, 2020 was so much stress and anxiety in my dept-I jumped ship for a local bank. (To which I was criticized for...told I’d be laid off, committing career s–c-de, etc). Best decision ever. So much different, and my skills/experience are appreciated. I have zero regrets. I left on good terms/am eligible for rehire, but I’m not coming back.

I say go for it!

To this question and the one before about large/small bank.

With JPM, it's all about climb the corporate ladder. In other words, it's all about politics, manage up, network, and cliques. Yes, you can say that I'm just doing honest work but that really gets you nowhere. But if you have the political skill and enjoy the corporate kool-aid, JP might just be the place for you.

With the smaller unit I'm in now, there is still politics but just much less, as people's mindsets are more aligned with company's growth and survival. And that leads to more flat corporate structure and everybody at least do their part and get compensated.

I don't regret my JP years but definitely know that it's greener outside for me.

Banking is dead and painful to work in nowadays. Large Tech firms are more powerful than governments, no one can stop their control, that's who you want to work for. Good luck though, they seem to only hire H1B's to drive wages into the ground and work you to death though.
