I can't find a single article online about yesterday's cuts online. None. Are we at that stage of the pandemic where layoffs are no longer an issue and nobody really cares about them? Or is IBM hiding what's been going on? Whichever of the two it is, it's not good.

Mass layoff is 500+ for large cos per month or so
What is happening is thousands of cuts over many months to hide it
Also a surge in low pay retail and delivery jobs is hiding the massive cuts in higher pay jobs.
Soon most people including educated managers, engineers, etc will be working for amazon, fedex, uber, doordash, etc delivering food and useless goods.
They’re hiding it. And it’s total BS.
The senior leadership in global markets should all hang their heads in shame.
All that fluff stuff communication last week, total garbage.
Because the big one hasn’t happened yet.
Thurs it will be all over the news.
Layoffs at IBM are no longer news
Most of states in usa don't have "warn" type laws and even warn is triggered above certain threshold.
Also ibm spends lot of $$ to keep it quiet - no mention in internal teams.
Has it exactly correct. This is why age discrimination is so hard to prove.

If I remember correctly, IBM doesn't have to disclose or report layoffs if the total number is under a certain amount. In the US, that certain amount is by each state. So, if IBM's layoffs are spread out amongst a bunch of different States, they don't have to disclose it. Also, if someone was told they are going to be laid off, or has a scheduled meeting where they anticipate they will be told that they are getting laid off, then that probably doesn't count yet.
