Is AT&T Smart, or Desperate for Customers?
AT&T (NYSE:T) has been the most aggressive of the three major wireless carriers with device promotions this year. The release of Apple's iPhone 12 prompted it to offer its existing customers the same promotions as new customers, something T-Mobile (NASDAQ:TMUS) and Verizon (NYSE:VZ) haven't done.

Smart not foolish. If they were not offering subsidized phones. AT&T brings themselves to the same parity / consumer compensation/service package as other companies.
In that case, AT&T would only be differentiated on price and network. Which Carrier is ahead on 5G coverage?, Warner or Direct TV? And whether or not the customer wants Tee Vee or is forced to pay for Tee Vee in order to get a cell phone.
I will never buy another phone from a carrier if I ever buy another smartphone.

Its a bit of both. ATT wants more customer to have 5G on their device which was missing from the folks which have iphones. Also, you get more efficient iphones out there that take advantage of 4x4 MIMO.
