Lab technician... chances of being able to transfer to another plant?

Lab technician... chances of being able to transfer to another XOM plant if I apply through the channels like the official website? If not then I will likely start applying for other lab tech positions. I understand the whole industry is hurting but I feel like I'm not the right fit with the current site I'm at right now for the past 2 years as a new hire. Final straw today was putting contractor lab technicians on the same level as XOM employees when it comes to OT. I understand its business but I can take my talent else where.

@eks+18U64raN Thanks. Helps alot and will go with flow with investing money into the stock market and staying in my lane until I see a better opportunity.

@eks+18U64raN they won’t accept an application from an existing employee, as far as I can tell. If you have a good relationship with your SLS, and they aren’t a first time 20-something with no experience, then you might be able to figure something out.

@dws+18U64raN Yeah, I see so many XOM employees who just accept the fact that they think this is the place till they retire. Im grateful to be able to work and know the current environment is tense, just want to strive better in an environment besides hearing the "you still have a job". Im okay with taking the risk of a 10-30% paycut or potential worse work environment. I don't enjoy the leadership and how they're clearly not looking out for their own like they always talk about

@suc+18U64raN Briefly saw this with the potential of a transfer at my place but then corona hit. Basically it seems like there has to be another person to switch over and up to the 2nd line. I was hoping to hear about people who went through the external route.

We had a technician a few years ago at the paulsboro site who was moving out to Chicago with his wife, he asked numerous times to be transferred to the blending facility they have there, management laughed at him and didn’t believe that he was leaving. He asked them for months and months. Had meeting with every authority on site. No one would take him seriously. He quit and went to Chicago anyway. Went back to school on his GI Bill. Management was FLOOOOREDDDDD

Existing employees are stuck working through their supervisors to work internal transfers, though you can use the external job to tell them where you want to go. Not sure about lab techs but I do occasionally see operators and maintenance techs move around. Overall it’s MUCH easier to apply for jobs externally because of how much internal moves are overworked.
