As a Canadian IBM'r who was RA'd last year (2020) I advise all the new 2021 RA folks on this thread to get a good lawyer. IBM will do the notice period BS and try to keep you working until your end date (see a lot of April 2021 on these notes). Then it will low-ball you on your payout. You can job hunt during your notice period and you are most likely entitled to more.

IBM Canada senior management got directed by the US to eliminate reasonable packages years ago, now they are trying to bully folks with rubbish severance packages. We are lucky there are at least some protections in Canada, but get legal support as IBM will not deal with you unless you have a credible lawyer representing you.

Got my call today, was told it was due to a reorg. Last day is April 2nd

Try to find out what geo your job got moved to - it might indicate a broader movement. I'm sure there will be others quick to speculate conclusions.

Major layoff at IBM Canada. Most is senior level, long time IBMers within Global Market unit. It’s almost a regular year beginning kick off with Layoff for IBM. This round is k–ling most staff who own major client relationships.
