No one likes being laid off (especially me) but most seem to forget that once executive decisions are made managers are "told" to hit a specific RA target, their management the same and so forth. I know because I've done it, not only at IBM but in previous companies as well. AK does not stay up at night plotting on how to fire YOU. He most likely has no idea who you are. His focus, and rightfully so, is to make sure IBM not only survives but thrives.
I got a call last week from a good friend in another Geo after the whole Global Markets dissolution. He was freaking out repeatedly inquiring "what did I do wrong?" and "could that action have been prevented?" . I spent more than an hour calming him down. I feel his pain as I was RA'ed last June but he is still in shock. Fortunately, that will pass too.
Stop stressing on things you have no influence over and worry about items within your sphere of control. And, for all of those being RA'ed (quoting a British expression): Chin up! it WILL get better
