Thread regarding IBM layoffs

RAd on Thursday

I can’t state EU or Dept. I haven’t been able to look at package in detail. I am with a group who are all top performers; feels like I didn’t stand a chance. Had great customer feedback, and met all goals with the exception of maybe didn’t embrace Design Thinking enough lol. Mgr said org/dept had to come down in numbers. I think it was only me. I don’t know how to move forward where my whole world was tied to IBM. I know, shame on me. This is affecting my health. I’m sure IBM snd my
Mgmt really cared. Sorry for the Debbie Downer. I’m positive and had blue blood.

It's true, the way to look important is to make comments on emails even if you have nothing to say. Be sure to congratulate every exec who gets mentioned. Always post "Thank you for the excellent information, I'm with you!" after every all hands meeting. All about brown noses instead of actual business.

We let go three sellers on my team. Two of them are bottom performers. One of them only closed 70k deal last year, can’t even cover his own salary. Entitled, lazy and took many days off. So yeah we don’t feel bad for him. Good luck!

Feels odd they cherry picked so many top performers. What a weird way to run a business. Makes me feel a little better about being RA'd with so many others like us chosen for RA list.

Yeah I feel that by speaking up in meetings or even trying to suggest improvements that was used against me by singling me out on the RA list. For the survivors, better to just not say anything better your odds to survive the next list of people chosen for RA's. Performance doesn't even matter any more. It was like a purity test Cult towards the end in my department with endless replies on email chains. If someone didn't reply then they must not be team player lol

I got RA'd last Thursday as well. Top performer here. 20 years in the company. They are doing the "let get rid of the old folks" all over again.

I am in the same boat as you, heck we could be in the same dept. 20+ years in, top performer. Make time for yourself, look outside if inclined.

IBM will never change, it has become a totally corrupt company run by a mafia that is supported by a totally shameful board... Some day, the dividend will have to take a hit, when that day comes, IBM will spiral into oblivion.

Exact same boat as original poster, it stings to be discarded so easily after 24 years of service. I also bleed blue and thought based on performance and reviews it could not happen to me, how wrong I was. The financial engineering has not worked for 10+ years, it’s mind boggling it’s still being practiced and accepted by analysts as a growth strategy.

As loyal as you are, it’s going to be better when you get sweet revenge.

Like when a football player is traded, goes out there and score 3 TDs against his former team.

Use you rockstar skills and destroy the competition.

I was with IBM for almost 3 decades and the RA was the best thing, no more stress on if it will be me next, there is life after IBM, use your network to find other positions outside IBM. Remember that it’s only a job and there are more important things to life than a job

You don't need to apologize for anything. This is all on IBM. The complete failure of IBM senior management.

The focus on stock price and not product.
The failure to see that something with seemingly little value, Thinkpad to pick one, could be useful later like Surface or Chromebook.
The failure to take Ustream, to pick another, and compete with Zoom and Teams

These are just a few examples of the lack of imagination, narrow mindedness, and callousness you were caught up in. I'm sorry. For all those who say life is better outside of IBM, well possibly. But you have to get there. Shame on IBM.

In the same boat 🚣🏾‍♂️....one of the biggest champions for IBM on my team and brought creative out of the box wins in 2020 even despite pandemic 😷. Recently even just won and award from Arvin for a big cloud and cognitive win. Also won and award from Ginni right before her retirement...
