Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Do I participate in team calls, etc

There are several stand ups / meetings that I have on my calendar. Should I attend those? These aren’t about my projects, but department meetings that hardly ever added any value.

Thank you so much.

@1dwd,
What's wrong with IBM is nepotism and internal bloat. Both those go hand in hand.
I cannot count how many paper pushers were hired based on who they know.
And yes, they all seem to avoid the RA's as well so IBM mgmt has zero cred.

@1dwd+18Z3gDzH when compensation is in line with expectations, then I will give more time and effort to IBM. It’s not worth it to give extra time and effort to a company that doesn’t pay well or incentivize their employees.

"....Do as little as possible just to get by and s— every last dime you can out of IBM.."

This is what's wrong with IBM... mo–ns like this not adding value and actually doing something productive. People complain that IBM is going downhill and isn't relevant and has no talent yet in the same breath say you do nothing at work. These are the people IBM needs to fire. Get motivated people that want to make better products, no leeches.

My director once told me that if you have no contribution to a meeting or if there is no information that you need to know, then your time is productive elsewhere.

"If you’re unhappy, then why waste your time?" Because if IBM is too stupid to get rid of me and keeps paying me OTE of 300k plus, why would I leave? Do as little as possible just to get by and s— every last dime you can out of IBM. I know many many people doing this at IBM.

You should attend all calls. And log them as activity you participated in. Also you should google buzz word bingo, and make the meeting fun. Share with your friends. Just be careful not to scream Bingo when you don't have your microphone muted.

Everyone must decide for themselves what is more important

If you care about your job, you should always strive to be visible and engaged and attend those extra calls, not necessarily all of them but enough to show your interest. If you don’t care, then it really doesn’t matter. As a retired executive, I can tell you that people do notice and that engagement also factors into how someone is perceived, opportunities for advancement and new projects, as well as who is put in an RA list. If you’re unhappy, then why waste your time? Life is too short.

If you are RA, you will not get fired unless you do something real bad. Take all your sick time, save PTO for payout, focus should be on next job now.
