Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Here’s the ticket for temporary success at AT&T

1) Kiss the arses of your leadership team.
2) Get real good at giving Power Point presentations.
3) Do NOT waste time developing technical expertise.
4) Learn to speak corporate jargon (all show, no go).
5) Be enthusiastic and constantly self-promote.
6) Take credit for the real work done by your peers.
7) Sing the praises of AT&T at every opportunity.
8) Work your way into the “Good ole Boy” network.

Follow the above, and in 10 years, or less, you too can be a highly connected Associate Director for a couple years, before they bounce you out of the business.

Outstanding post. My advice to any AD is get out as soon as possible, or make sure your director or AVP is compensating you in grand fashion.

If they’re not, half-a– it like everyone else.

Google has over 120,000 temp workers and 100,000 full-time employees. This is the new business model to dramatically cut costs. Quietly move away from full-time corporate employees.

  1. Play golf
  2. Practice golf
  3. Team up with levels higher than you and "support" the team
  4. Buy the drinks
  5. Politic on the course
  6. Kiss, KIss, KISs & KISS as_
  7. Take credit for others' work and blame others' for your deficiencies

Other fortune 500 companies plan and use temp workers as they need them. The two I have been at never mention layoffs and plan their temp workers accordingly. they don't lay off their workers just to rehire them back as temp. that is bull and only something that att does because they are a nwo cesspool and I recommend anybody thinking of working there to run far far far far far away.

The longer I work here, the more I think the associate director role is the absolute worst position ever. Tons of work, not much in pay, and all the political games that go with it. No thanks.

I have seen folks at the AD role that are incredible for a decade or more. Then seen folks come in and zip through the ranks with nothing under their belt. All I can think is it’s a popularity game and has nothing to do with real skill or accomplishment.

Other Fortune 500 companies conduct continuous "stealth" layoffs. Layoff full-time employees while rehiring through temp agencies. These quiet layoffs are done to maintain brand value.

I can confirm all this is accurate. Level 3, if you’re wondering.

self promote is right everyone is a genius in their own mind - must be all the micro degrees and so glad I work for company that isn't like that anymore. so nice to go through years without hearing the word layoff.

Been to two fortune 500 companies since I left att and they were nothing like like att and never mentioned the word layoff. att is run like a cesspool and they deserve what they get.

You just described the culture of every publicly traded company except for Tesla and Amazon.
