Yes it should for Cisco. They should also be sued for Age Discrimination. Cisco make look like they are giving option to senior employee to leave, if they take the option, they get laid off. These south Indian manager hired only there own people, everyone is disqualified

H1B workers simply have different constraints that non-H1B workers have, because while Silicon Valley companies do have a "Whistleblowers are Protected" statement in their company policy.

Managers who exploit H1B workers, in the Silicon Valley, know that the H1B workers can be deported, if they talk.

I have literally seen managers YELLING at H1B workers, which they would not otherwise get away with.

To the commenter (shown below). They are not addicted to a chemical.

Unless you are referring to the dopamine flowing through the synapses, when you get a "kickback". Watch "The Good Guys" and you will see how a group of people can work their own system, under the existing system (where everyone gets a cut of the Loot).

It is pure greed. Managers used to get a bonus from offshore headhunter companies and it was discussed from person to person. Now it is hush hushed, so there is no saying who is doing what. But we know that it is still going on in the industry because there are still offers of a bonus from head hunters. It is on the down low now, and done behind closed doors. Nobody knows exactly to what extent, but if you were a Director and you had several Managers, you could have (essentially) been running your own pyramid scheme inside a tech company, in Silicon Valley. Each Manager who kept his or her mouth shut essentially can get in on the action too, hiring a few recruits of their own, and giving the bonus to other managers, who are part of the "team".
;)

It got so bad that tech companies now make their employees sign a yearly statement saying that they will not take money from outside sources, as part of their yearly Ethics contract with each employee (Managers have additional pages to sign in their Ethics agreement).

True with every IT company and not just Facebook or Cisco. TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Zensar are the like the d–g cartels (call it what it is). American IT companies get cheap d–g or H1B's thru them. Once hooked, you can get your fix only through these with their pimps working as Managers at Facebook, Cisco, etc.

"I remember back in the 90's at one company there was a published list of all positions occupied by H1B persons"

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I don't know about the 90's as that was before my time, but I recall in the 2000's...

Cisco had some guy named Resee who was not an employee, but somehow he managed to publish a list of employees. I think that someone (an insider) at Cisco gave the entire employee directory, so that it could be published.

This was not good! It turned out that there were a LOOOOOT of Managers who had only one (or two or three) H1B offshore workers working for them. And, no other direct reports (period).

Apparently everybody wanted to be a manager and apparently the way to do that was to hire an H1B. This went on for years, and inside the company everyone was like WOOOOOO, this does not look good.

But outside of Cisco, nobody knew what the heck was going on. It wasn't until the list got published (on a website) that people (outside of Cisco) figured out what was going down.

And those managers with only one H1B reporting to them, got scared when they looked on the website and saw their personal information in the limelight (with ONLY one H1B reporting to them).

When I managed a team, I had 10 to 20 people working for me. I'm not sure exactly how every manager could get anything done with only one H1B reporting to them, but Cisco seems to have pulled it off somehow.

Hopefully they don't try that stint again.

Cisco and other Bug Tech company's are so full of sh– when they talk about "diversity" . For Cisco diversity means having 90% Indians and a few female college student interns for them to ogle at. SO WOKE!

I remember back in the 90's at one company there was a published list of all positions occupied by H1B persons. If you were a US citizen and got notified that you were being laid off you could apply for any one of those positions and technically the company was supposed to hire you and lay off the H1B person instead if you had the same qualifications (e.g. degree level, experience...). Not sure if such a list is still published somewhere and if the same rules still apply

I never heard of any one going that route but it was interesting to see how many positions in various groups were "potentially" available.

Unfortunately India has a caste "problem". If you are low caste, I wish you well. I'm not sure what can be done. I tried to speak out when I actually witnessed someone say that a particular person was low caste and that in India, he would would be put in his place.

I was like,
"WTF dude ?!?!?!?!"

I was floored and totally shocked to hear someone actually say that.
It SHOULD NOT happen. Un-fricking believable.

Anyway, shame on him for saying that. After I left Cisco, he reached out to me for a reference and I DID NOT GIVE him a reference for treating someone else like a low caste and saying those hurtful words to another human being.

I complained about it, but was told that is the way it goes and if that guy does not like it he has a few days to find another employer/sponsor or go back home.

WTF ?!?!?!

Find a better company. I did.

I hope Cisco gets the same lawsuit.

If you are not from India, then you will not last long at this company.

Was there for one year and saw the handwriting on the wall.

Left quickly, as many other people told me that they favor H1-B from only a certain country, as all the recruiters are from that same country. Even the recruiters in the USA are from India (the recruiter actually called me FROM India).

I was told that if you are a manager and you get someone hired, you get a bonus from the company for getting your project done, and you can take a referral bonus for hiring your friends (using the outsourcing company - India owned company).

Diversity is not welcome, but some people told me that it used to be a lot better.

So glad I got out. Went downhill FAST!!

Sounds like the Data & Analytics office at Cisco. Brutal outsourcing and H1b visa culture.

Avoid if you are low-caste.

Silicon Valley is full of Traitors and Greed is everywhere. California high cost of living, high education cost and outsourcing is leading to this situation. Sue them again and again.

Cisco gets around that by giving the work to Indian companies. If you look at the H1B usage for Cisco and include the red badge team members that work at Cisco locations we are way way up there. One of the reasons they are working to make the red badge vendors provide their own office space. Another is to reduce the office space needs and sell off more buildings.
