Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

The Trifecta (plus two)

So I think I'm aggregating all of the confirmed rumors correctly.

In the next year, AT&T is

  • Taking a week of vacation away from managers with >20 years (in return for a net 2 fixed holidays)
  • Stopping contributions to pension plans
  • Stopping 401(k) matches
  • Eliminating IPI, and possibly reducing or eliminating the team award
  • Compressing salary ranges so those at the higher end of any band will have salaries reduced
  • all because the mo–ns in the C-Suite made three horrible, horrible deals that nobody with an ounce of common sense would have approved.

Am I missing anything?

Oh thats why everyone is suddenly leaving on their own volition. It used to be the pin drop company that had that reputation on the street. Strange they never recovered from that, nor were they ever able to attract and or maintain SME talent afterward = unable to successfully design implement launch next gen network technologies, Subsequently left in the dust by the competition.

Union gets more pay and benefits, management less. Repeat again, and again and again. So sorry manager.

No changes to the dividend will be made. After all, Stinky does not want Ratty to be shortchanged on his $1M a quarter dovidend check!

Stinky will just borrow the $ for the dividend like he has been doing. Stinky will just have to whack a dew more thousand employees to make up for it. But he will hire a boat load of Tech Mahindra to make it up!

Perhaps the CFO that just left thought borrowing $ to pay out a dividend was a Ponzie scheme?

This is so about employees. Likely they want to fund the dividend by driving out their best employees. They'll send the work instead to parasites like Tech Mahindra to bleed them dry for short term on-paper success.

This is the first I heard out stopping contributions to the pension plan to those already vested?

Stinky is really stretching his imagination to make the toxic dumpster fire even more miserable.

Since I just figured out that my pension would increase to a signifant 10% between 64 and 65 if I was stupid enough to take the annuity, this will insure no one ever makes that extra 10%.

I think I would request to be put on the whacking list if this pans out. Stinky is grinning. Another one bites the dust!

Replying to myself in case others have the same question. Checked a previous statement. We get a base bonus, then IPI is on top of that. That is going to hurt. The base bonus and IPI has been funding improvements and major maintenance around the house.

I'm assuming this is effective in our bonus for this year and ongoing.

What exactly is IPI? Is that the 12% or so bonus that comes in March? Or is that the incremental that goes on top of that - the additional 6-8% or so based on individual performance? Or is IPI a different animal altogether?

What exactly was stated about vacation time? Was the losing the 5th week for people with more than 20 years confirmed?

Anything else confirmed in the 4Q call?

Everything that comes from Stank and McF Stank JR is a negative for employees. While smiling and spinning, there depressing communications are unbearable . There has been nothing positive from upper management in years. Strategy genius Stank was a driving forces in every major disastrous decision. He also owns the toxic corporate culture

IPI going away was just confirmed on Chow town hall. As is the basis of the vacation bullet point (all the details were not given). Also getting rid of Amplify and replacing with a new system, where you will get feedback and coaching every month.

Stopping contributions to pension plans - glad I left now that was the only reason I was staying.

my pension buyout has made a lot more money than if it stayed with att and I have better job that is contributing more to my retirement than att ever did. win/win

where is all the cash that att is generating going. sounds like it isn't going to the employees anymore.

The funny thing is that none of what you said would be shocking anymore. Actually, it is expected and that is so sad.

Is this across the board for all areas of the company?? This is the first that I am hearing about this.

Its already not appealing to the best students. AT&T only recruits at mediocre universities. Top MBA and engineering students go to schools where AT&T knows they can't compete. Can't compete with Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Apple and many others for tech talent.

"everyone keeps leaving the company mere months after joining"

Talk to Stankey and that's probably exactly what he wants. He doesn't want people to make any sort of career at AT&T. He's said this. It's kind of the reverse of the rule, "the most expensive mile you can drive is in a new car as you pull out of the dealer's lot." Here, the cheapest employee is the one just out of college who doesn't really know anything. If they leave before the first year, then no need to increase their salary.

They think a warm body is interchangeable with another warm body. That's what doomed the company to outsource its core functions to low-cost parasites like Tech Mahindra.

Two things.

One is, they're giving an extra vacation week to the "young talent."

Second, it seems like T doesn't really want any talent at all. They want to hire kids right out of college who, while smart (I was one at one time), really don't know what the eff they're doing in the context of the business they're in. That's always been the job of the "old" talent, to help teach the newbies, just where their Python code, or whatever, fits in the grand, grand scheme of this extremely complex business.

They are far, far more interested in pushing out this "old" talent. And to be clear, we're talking about the group that includes people in their early 40s, hardly "retired in place" individuals.

Who's going to harness this young talent anyway? You think Tech Mahindra is going to take them under their collective wing? Accenture? Amdocs?

As you stated these are RUMORS everyone is dealing with so much right now we need facts as the rumors add fuel to the fire.

Stopping 401(k) matches

You can't be f—ing serious. Man, they are reeeeally making this an unappealing company for the college folk. They already have problems hiring new talent because everyone keeps leaving the company mere months after joining. I have no words other than to say that this is an absolutely r—ded move by an executive who clearly doesn't understand what they are doing.

Mind you, young talent is what keeps the company competitive. Without it, Titanic sinks even faster.

These executive mo–ns are throwing out chunks of the ship out so they can stay afloat as long as possible.
