Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Legal or HR requirement weeks of notice

In the US, is there a LEGAL requirement to give 2 weeks of notice? How many weeks/days of notice did you give?

Re no WARN act, it has well defined criteria that no doubt that H labor lawyers guided H to avoid. Note that it is site by site specific.

Can anyone respond why Honeywell did not have to follow the WARN act this past May?

When you wake up, you owe them nothing
When you walk in the door, you owe them a day's work
When you walk out the door, they owe you a day's pay

That's it

If you are in Wash St, it is "at will", per my Attorney.

I think in the US, most states are called "at will", meaning you can leave without notice at will and they can fire you without notice (excluding mass layoffs where the WARN act comes into play).

I'd find out if your state is an "at will" state and proceed as you see fit.

A long time ago I gave 2 weeks notice at another company and was told to get out of here. I still got paid those 2 weeks. Honeywell does not give any notice to employees many times when they get rid of u to cut cost. U are tapped, surprised and told to get your things and get out. So why give them notice.

Historically (before offices were computerized), two weeks' notice has been an expectation on the part of the employer, and a "courtesy" on the part of the quitting employee. The two weeks was a period when the company would look for a replacement, and the employee might train them if time permitted. The company would close out the books on the employee, who would wrap up their work.

Nowadays, since many companies consider a quitting employee a security threat, you will be walked out the door immediately after giving notice since the fear is that you might dump your work files or somesuch or disrupt the other workers before heading out the door. So, as others have said, you don't owe them the courtesy of 2 weeks' notice.

No there is no requirement to give notice.
If you want to, just leave and don't come back.
After 3 days no show / no call it is considered job abandonment.
You may want to take any company property that you have to your manager on your way out.
What if some coworker takes your tools or computer or whatever you have after you leave?
It would not be unreasonable for the company to assume that you walked out with it.
