Job search service

Anyone using the job search service the company is providing? Initial impressions?

I guess it'sh– or miss depending on who gets assigned as your coach. I got lucky to get someone who worked as a recruiter for large firms for a while, and I could immediately tell she knows what she's talking about.

Haven't tried their live resume coaching yet but the virtual one was pretty good as a first pass.

I recommend taking advantage of whatever you think would be useful since you already have access anyway. It's nice to get some perspective from others.

RM was not that useful to me. I had coach assigned to me who bombarded me with very very very long emails almost every day. I did not care to read those. In fairness, the live webinars were great, saw many people joining in who, like me, were laid off - from IBM (many of them!), and other big companies. The RM resume format did not work for me, I got more interview calls whenever I used my preferred format. I practiced my interviews by recording myself. In summary: NO, RM was not that very useful to me.

I got PILed in July and used it. I haven’t applied for a job since 2002 so I was completely unaware of all the things you need to do to get a job these days. I have already gotten a new job at a great company and it is all thanks to RM.

You get out what you put into it.

Course on LinkedIn was somewhat useful... Otherwise most of it was a waste of time. Recruiters are now hitting me up safer I already have another job, but for quite some time, there simply weren't meaningful jobs open, or companies move at glacial paces, and you've already accepted after months of searching. Learn about ATS and easy apply. It's a numbers game.

@1wbv+18gpSKB1 Are you one of those people who would freak out over a typo in a presentation completely ignoring the content because someone use to instead of too or their instead of there?

Who cares how it is spelled.

Google it then. I'm telling you, your spelling is incorrect.

I found Right Mgt useful for Resume review (the current style, for example) and learned a bit about LinkedIn usage (the monetized network tool).
That was all I expected.

And the spelling 'Gawn Pecawn' is the correct spelling, btw.

@uxp+18gpSKB1 you are the one person on this site that heard the phrase 'gone pecan' for the first time the other day, and now use it on every post but spelled wrong every time bc u think you are cool

Hey Folks, RM & similar outplacement services are there simply to absolve the employer for turning us into Gawn Pecawns......

IMHO, it would be more beneficial if the money they spent (wasted) with these outfits were instead added to our severance payment. At least that way we can perhaps use it towards making mortgage payments and taking the family out to Mickey D's for a few happy meals!

Hang in there and don't lose hope........it will eventually get better and all of this will just be a bad memory.

Not a XOM employee but laid off from O&G all the same earlier in the year. Someone said in a previous post that Right Management (RM) is the service. From the standpoint of brushing you up to be presentable on the job market, they are pretty helpful if you've been out of the game for a while and need tips. Their live webinars were good as well as the resume and LinkedIn profile review. Perhaps I didn't utilize their job placement services to the fullest extent but from what I did use it leaves some to be desired. They have HR connections at certain companies that they do not publish to the consultees. I would find job postings of interest on my own, then ask RM if they had a contact to "fast-track" my resume. Sometimes they had a contact, sometimes they didn't. I mean, it's good to have many points of contact into a company of interest but if that is all there is to their "job placement", you're better off finding your own internal contact who can then possibly forward your info directly to the hiring manager or even introduce you to them directly. I ended up getting hired at a company on my own efforts long after my contract with RM expired.

Ive had my 3 months and it was absolutely useless for.me. They seem to be geared up for marketing, accountancy and IT people. Sweet F.A. for scientists and engineers. I don’t know of anyone with my kind of background who got a job through that lot (Right Management).

My understanding is they pair you up with an actual live person. Like a head hunter in reverse.

How is it any different than LinkedIn, indeed and other similar services?
