This site has served its purpose. Any suggestions for where to go from here? Sites that aren’t just wallowing in self pity. I’m ready to move on and realize this site isn’t helping. I might even start going back to church. Sounds cliche I know but I’ve been doing quite a bit of thinking about what I want out of life and what is important to me and realize I need to refocus on things I have been neglecting.

Are we allowed to have a LinkedIn account even if we are still with Exxon. Are we allowed to list our current employer?
I wonder if anyone got recommendations from their supervisor/manager and is it possible?
I second the “going back to church” thought. It can help for both spiritual reasons as well as professional reasons. Some churches have job search ministries.
If mega-church ads (for Gateway snake-handlers, no less) are the direction of this board -
yeah, I'm leaving too.
However - if I can get insight into how the lay-off process, etc. works, then this is the place.
Going back to church is never a bad idea, as long as it's a Bible-based church. If you're in the D/FW area, Gateway Church is awesome! If you're not in the area, you can still catch the services online. Robert Morris is a fantastic teacher of the Word.

LinkedIn. Regardless if you were separated from XOM or not, use LinkedIn to network both with XOM employees as well as others. Many of your XOM colleagues are out there offering to help those that have been laid off.
Resume Builder websites. There are some good resume builders that provide you various templates and will auto populate your resume for you to get you started.
I think many people (including me) were caught off guard that so many people were released from the company this year. Whether you are impacted or not, I think we all have realized that we may not work for XOM our entire career. So, continue learning, networking, and most importantly, keep a positive attitude and your options open.
