Thread regarding Ford layoffs

There was always the possibility

Being an agency employee there was always a chance that my employment could end at Ford without any notice. I went into this with that knowledge in mind years ago. I expected nothing in return except a paycheck and perhaps some new skills I could pick up over the years. Well, that day I’ve been waiting for has happened and while the way it was done was unprofessional, the only thing I can think of is “where to next?” I know others are devastated and you have a right to be. But keep in mind that you will eventually find something- you may even find yourself in a better position in the future. Good luck everyone!

Oh I agree with it was the way it was handled that bothers everyone. even as a full time employee you do not like to see someone laid off. I can remember when they hired someone full time. The boss would even have a section lunch for that person. I think they (senior management) need to provide time for people to prepare for a reduction in workforce. maybe like 6 months . This last one before the holidays does not sit well even for a full time person very cold and unprofessional. we know understand that cuts have to happen form time to time but be professional about it. you give the troops warning in advance they will respect you you more and if you need future employees they may recommend you . now people are telling their kids to avoid automotive as a career. back in the early 90s ford was the #3 place to work. HR even gave you a copy of the article in your employee new hire book. how that all changed. if hr or some vp reads this be truthful with cuts and give ample warning.

Agree with the comment on "REAL TRANSPARENCY" vs last minute BS cuts with no warning. Also the town hall said the survey stated like 90% understood the plan? What plan? As far as we know the cupboards are barren! If there are cuts tell the troops!!! They will at least respect you more. especially after these so called corporate BUZZ words like family which right now do not carry a can of beans. People distrust the management at Ford.. Especially Farley... The award announcement was a joke... If you stuck his nose any further it would turn BROWN...Gosh it was sick sight to hear and see...

Response to @yhc+18jL0kir:

Utter rubbish.
When Ford recruited me, they said they wanted somebody long term for the position. No "job hoppers", is how they put it.
I will never buy that line of BS again, from a corporation.

The reason you state, is in fact, not the reason companies hire agency workers.
And if you were on the receiving end of the phone call that many got last Friday night, you would understand "why people are so shocked and angry when this happens".

Another member of the "blame the victim" crowd.
Well, sooner or later, it will be you who are the victim.
These folks received absolutely zero notice, right at the holidays.
Of course they are shocked and angry.
Are you a complete id!ot?
Have a little empathy, if you are even capable.

I am a full time employee. And yes the way this was done was very poor and unprofessional. Even in the salaried ranks we expect more cuts to come next year. But our senior management (not leaders) do not have the guts or courage to inform people. transparent is just a word to them. Trust is lost. I give UPS senior management credit, they informed their employees that they would freeze pensions five years form the date they announced gives employees a chance to make adjustments. Billy Ford and the Ford family remind me of Andrew Carnegie when the steelworkers went on strike he let his henchmen FLICK be known as the bad cop. Well news for you Billy this one and the company survival is on your hands. Grow a pair and tell the troops what this so called plan you have?

It's not that Ford did this it's how they did. It was basically Ford sc-aping the dogsh!t off the bottom of their shoe and then walking away like it never happened.

Exactly. I never understand why people are so shocked and angry when this happens. The main reasons companies hire contract workers is because they are dispensable and firing them is a quick fix for budget issues. Contract workers know this going in and should not be shocked when they are let go.
