Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

"Change" notification emails are hitting

Partner just received an HR update confirming many of the changes rumored in other posts recently for non-bargained workers:

PTO time changes: 0-9 years = 23 days; 10+ years = 28
Three additional Holidays recognized: MLK Day, Presidents Day, Day after Thanksgiving
Bereavement time increased from 3 to 5 days
Amplify going away (?); employees will need 5 peer reviews. Mid years returning. 5 star based ratings

eeesh...

Well even if google or apple shift 50% of their employees to T. They won't stay w/ the toxic layoff culture leadership has been pushing for years.

HR must be willing to give big bonuses since I expect to give the best reviews ever, as many of my peers deserve and have deserved in the past.

You know that extra week of vacation you worked 20 years to get? Well f–k you buddy! Yoink!

That is my Friday.

I have been with ATT Mobility for over 20 years. I lost a week of vacation when we merged with Cingular and it took over five years to get back. If I lose it again I will get it back one way or another. And that's what everyone else in my boat that I speak with says as well. This will backfire and cause more trouble than the money it saves.

And yet we never got rid of one level of management, even after Morrow said we were too top heavy

Got confirmation on the following:

  • Vacation changes confirmed.
  • 401k matching changes still under study.
  • IPA changes confirmed.
  • Amplify being replaced.
  • Raises calculus changed based on percentage of max you are at

Get a load of this. All these changes are because T is not competitive to other "industry " leaders and T cannot get qualified new hires? Only new hires I know are from Mumbai U.

WTF? What a crock!

I generally do not take sick days. Beginning next year, will be taking 5 minimum annually. Works both ways.

Peer Reviews? Really... Lame... What if I don't have 5 peers at my level in my org? Even if there are, how the hell would they know how i'm accomplishing tasks.

Lots of talent is already giving notice and leaving. This will speed things up a bit.

The time off changes are age discrimination, plain and simple! They know no one can challenge the company because they will lose so they do what they want. They are a piece of sh–!

Someone told me they found out today they are getting a huge raise, due to recalibration by HR with regard to title, salary range and position relative to midpoint. Anyone else get this today? (Management employee)

T University and Surplus HR bureaucracies in place . The new HR CZAR had to implement something to claim credit and justify millions in salary, bonus and benefits. She will probably be gone within two years

Peer reviews? How asinine. First off, what peers? They going to pull names randomly from a bag to decide my worth? And if 5 people are reviewing me, does that mean that I have to review 5 other people in return? That's not my fricken job.

" Who is going to give someone a bad review?"

As silly as I thought essentially writing my own review has been over the last decade or so (under A & D /Amplify)...now, as an individual contributor with no direct reports, it appears I am going to be writing other people's reviews (assuming this peer review thing is true). You literally can't make this stuff up.

If true, I am guessing there will be constraints/ guidance/ bell curve on how you can review folks. Somehow I don't think they'll open it up to allow peers to rank everyone at the very top. You can be sure there will be lanes you have to stay in.

Just another ridiculous idea being implemented after leadership probably paid some fancy consulting firm millions that they can hardly afford to.

I thought we couldn’t possibly come up with a more meaningless and ineffective system than the current Amplify. Looks like once again, I’m wrong. Peer reviews? Really?

Really? Who is going to give someone a bad review? We don't even give bad former employees bad reviews. How can HR be so incompetent?
