This shouldn't have been surprising. Apple wouldn't have switched to their own CPU if they didn't have confidence they could scale up its performance. Given that they control MacOS, there are a lot they can do to work around hardware issues or optimize for the hardware. Maybe Microsoft can make a play and buy out Intel to compete with Apple.
