Thinking about applying for legacy t Networking Technical specialist. I cannot find much information about it and I see quite a few positions open up. Can anyone give some info about the position and why suddenly they are hiring? I heard from previous post once those techs leave they wouldn't be backfill them but now they are hiring.

Yes, hiring for ABFS work when there isn’t even enough work to keep existing technicians busy, makes perfect sense! They’re hiring with anticipation that the orders will be generated through a surge of the sales teams pounding the pavement, but they’re putting the cart before the horse! As of now, very little ABFS work out there and the techs are happy to be getting paid to do very little!
In all likelihood it is probably for ABFS work - WiFi installs OOR recently went through a reorg splitting half the NTS (managers as well) into Business Field Services under Chow and the other half remaining in Network Engineering operations under Mair responsible for C/O work, maintaining eqpt in CoLo’ common space and cust prem. Just had someone recently retire and they are backfilling his position. But it will be for ABFS work under Chow. There haven’t any layoffs or packages for many years ( at least where we are in the northeast) and job security seems pretty stable but again I think most of the openings are for ABFS work

I’m an NTS. It depends on what market you apply for as to what the job responsibilities are. Generally if you work in an area that is out of region or the “footprint” as we call it, you may have more premise/central office work. Out of region is areas where AT&T isn’t the local phone company, btw. You also maintain the older transmission and LNS fibers.
I was told these new positions deal wither fiber trunk loops and deal with protecting the primary fiber network. I do not believe this is a customer serving position but a fiber loop maintenance position. Seems like a specialized job assignment for that position title. Interesting why several positions randomly started showing up from New York to Arizona.

At least in the out of region areas, these spots may be an an inside central office job or an outside business services job. Kind of a big difference and it would be nice to know ahead of time but they seem to just choose a role for you when you transfer in. All the same NTS title so far, but the name of the hiring manager should give you a clue if you call any of their team and ask what kind of work they do. There is some kind of reorganization coming that they've been trying to figure out for the last six months. In my short experience in the title, I've seen them consistently replace the people that leave.
