Going full HBO Max makes total sense in the current world situation even if it makes cinemas angry. I see it as a move for HBO Max's survival as well.
Once we go back to normal if we ever do it would make sense to go back to the previous model specially if there is more revenue involved. But it would be good maintain some dual releases on both setups, that way there continues to be an incentive for Max subscribers.

Exactly. If not for the paltry turnout in theaters for Tenet, this move would have not happened. A movie that was expected to do $500m in the US on did $50m due to COVID.
So Nolan says “keep taking the loses to keep no matter what”....NOT.
Best move by AT&T since the iPhone deal, actually may turn out to be much better.
AT&T got to them. Stank made the right move. Who goes to a freaking movie at a theater with COVID raging all around us? Answer: no one.
Stank the man forced the issue. The directors and actors can scream all they want. People vote with their pocketbook and HBO Max adaptation is increasing like a rocket. Well done Stankman.
Hollywood directors, producers and actors usually have a significant incentive share in movie's revenue. Movie revenue is supported a huge promotion and ad campaign for ticket sales. HBO Max means no ad campaign and huge reduction in their payout. If I was Nolan, I would be p-ss-d too. You can always relied to Stank the stable genius to @#$% things up some more.
Have all I can or care to watch on ROKU and Firestick.

Problem is companies with legacy management like HBO still have their dinodaur thinking caps on still believe it's 1984 and they can just strong arm the OTT device makers like they did with cable companies. They don't care to realize, that it's a different ballgame. The most bonehead thing T did was try to tie the Hbo max product to specific hardware their thinking is 20 years out of date.
This was the stellar worst rollout in the short history of channels, whether streaming or not. There's just no excuse for this. It took forever to get onto Fire stick but don't say that Roku is the only one that doesn't have it – Xfinity customers STILL don't have it on the X1 Box. The only way we can watch it is on a computer. Or, if you have one, a Chomecast, or a Samsung Smart TV. This is a giant PITA. The fault should be laid directly at the feet of HBO. They're the ones that didn't get the millions of projected subscribers because of their sheer pigheadedness, Rip HBOMAX
