Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Donahoe email with videos today

Anyone else feeling the ELT lack of reality for the average employees daily lives and the fact that we don't know if we will have a job or not during the layoffs/pandemic? And that we're stressed out by the back to back endless meetings (though they tell us to "take care of ourselves and family", but on the backend it's a 180 expected of us.), the burden of mortgages, rent, food, bills, etc., Have you also noticed the empirical halos? Obviously the VPs and above get to have these pep talks with the famous, and we are left with? "AC"? Thanks, but no thanks. To add to this, the VPs get to live where ever they want and we're setting up special HQs to support them, but the rest of us are not given this remote option? We've had the layoffs swooning over all of our heads since June/July 2020 and they keep pushing it out. It's adding to the stress of not knowing if we have a job and can support our families. How can they not understand this stress? There's a lack of engagement with the "minions plight" or understanding. How can I put this plainly for the Empirical Royal Highness's to understand: Do you know what it's like to: pay rent month to month, live pay check to pay check, alimony, bills (that you swap from one credit card to another to make ends meet), food, daycare, mortgage, health bills, dentist bills, and if possible, mental heath (if you can afford it or have the time) ; do you realize how expensive daycare is? And during the pandemic is an absolute luxury but still a risk. Is this clear? Do you know what it's like to live in your car, van, or truck and use our company showers to stay hygienic? Or those that have had to hide in our company offices to have shelter? Yes, that's a "real" thing. WAKE UP VPs and ABOVE!!! You're revolting in your high castles. I pray to God and in his name that your have your AWAKENING! With that, Dear God, PLEASE! Find a way for our disconnected leaders to understand our plight and pain and let them join us in prayer to reveal the true reality of this state in time. Let them understand our needs, hurt and worry about our futures so that they can relate and be more cognizant of what we are going through. I ask in the name of Jesus Christ that our words/thoughts be heard and that you weigh down upon those that are privileged to have more care and thought about their actions. In the name of the Father, Son and the Holy Ghost. Amen (this prayer includes all religions, so pray with us)

@ptz and what I think.

Well, that post is one of the reasons I rarely look at the Layoff as it's depressing. It's been a long time since I've taken a peek. I had to reread the original post over and over to try and understand.

  1. Yes, I agree that the VPs and above live a life of privilege and they don't understand what the average worker goes through. From what I'm seeing, everyone is in so many back to back meetings, that even if they had the time to apply for another position, they're exhausted. Where do they have the time and be in the right frame of mind? When they say take care of yourselves and your family, it's a joke. On the back end, they're stuck in high priority meetings that go into the evenings to cover China, India and everywhere else. There really isn't a break for anyone. To be honest, I'm exhausted and I'm lucky enough to not be in this situation.
  1. Tone Deaf is a real thing. It's as if the VPs and above are star struck with their guest speakers, which the average employee doesn't have that exposure, and they're reacting with "how cool is this?"? Really? Again, the privileged and not privileged. I was so embarrassed when AC asked LeBron what he thought of diversity. What a chump; you have no idea what "white" privilege is and is the reason why you are where you are. Did you catch LBJs brief reaction? Sadly, LBJ is probably used to the lame white man's inappropriate questions. The better question should have been: Being sensitive, can you give us your feedback or thoughts on the protests and what message would you like to get across?

Side note: To the VPs and above, do you remember what it was like to be poor if you ever were? Especially in today's world where the cost of living is increasing and increasing. A single person can't afford to be on their own anymore unless they're wealthy. Can you imagine being on that edge with a growing family or broken one? I'm assuming the OP is trying to reference this, but maybe not so eloquently.

  1. Yes, the Drake video was a massive mistake. That was more important to you than the employee(s). Again, another famous person that you in the high castles are excited about. Yet, you forget the employees and what burdens them. You really have no idea.

By the way, the VPs and above received swag for the JD meetings. I don't remember that last time I received swag. It's been years. I do remember how proud I was to work for Nike (2014 - 2015), and then it started the downhill of no swag or employee appreciation.

To date, nothing beats the “behind the scenes of drakes music video on campus” during the September all hands meeting.

I get it at this is a channel / place to vent about the uncertainty that's k–ling many people, or at least driving a LOT of stress. That said, why does it have to be THIS way? It is no different in any big organization. The only reason it seems so hard is because Nike drives a big brand image that's all about athletes, and self-worth etc. It almost like we feel entitled to be treated differently. Really, most organizations do the exact same thing. The grass ain't greener on the other side.

Every person has 2 options in this time of limbo. Or 3, I suppose. 1) Have an exit clause in place. Search for new jobs and if you land one, take it. Don't wait for Nike to pull the trigger on you, you pull the trigger on Nike. 2) Man/Woman up. Rise above this and keep doing your best. And, who knows, you just might be the one to NOT get sh–canned. If you do, well, life happens. 3) Fester, and decide to die each day the layoff is postponed. Every person has 3 options. You get to pick which one you want to follow.
