Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Safe Areas

Are there any areas of at&t which are safe to work? (safe from job reductions) I hear so many stories of layoffs here but I didn't know if there are pockets of the company that are safe. Please don't reply with harsh comments, I'm just trying to ask a serious question. Thank you.

There are no safe areas. This company will betray you if it saves them a dollar. Maybe it’s like that with most employers, but I’d like to think not. If you have the skills you should leave. Also I personally could not recommend to anyone that they start a career at AT&T. Not someone I cared about. It makes me sad.

I highly recommend CSO as a place to work. While I am no longer there (volunteered for layoff to start my own business), I found the managers to be respectful, caring, hard working people. My co-workers all were skilled, dedicated and hard working too. I was impressed during my time there. While no group is immune to layoffs, CSO has done well to keep their workers employed and treated well - Definitely better than what I hear from so any others who worked in other areas. Of course, if you don't want to work hard, you won't be a fit. Expectations are high and the technology upgrades move quickly.

Every employee should consider a plan to fire AT&T as their employer. Their performance is not meeting acceptable goals and employee should have like high morale, perks to make your life easier, long term career (without out fear that after 30+ years one day you walk in and told your job is being eliminated). Fire AT&T and actively tell outsiders this is a company to stay away from as an employer and a service provider

Your best plan to be safe is outside AT&T. Poor management is the threat at AT&T and Stankey excels at it as he has no experience in a creative, growth industry and does not acknowledge his weakness.

"Only people safe are 4ths and above, friends, and family. Everyone else? Just listen to the town halls for the latest announcements of layoffs. Just a honest answer."

With the Stank making such stellar progress on destroying value at Warner in preparation for the fire sale of a 170 Billion dollar acquisition I would venture to say no one is safe in the medium to long term–not even Stank and friends and family.

Yes. The Government Solutions/National Security organization under Chow that is based in and around Washington, DC is pretty stable since they support Intelligence Community government contracts. They need “butts in seats” in order to generate revenue on most of these contracts. A security clearance is required for the bulk of the jobs, though.

I heard that the ABFS org is hiring. Just have to keep your eye on the website for new positions.

I am sure there are positions here that are high turnover, high stress, that nobody likes that are pretty safe. However taking one would be a last resort for most internal candidates and if you are external you can do better. Although even the worst jobs here now have 23 days of PTO

As the man said last year, “nothing is safe, and nothing is off the table”.

Only people safe are 4ths and above, friends, and family. Everyone else? Just listen to the town halls for the latest announcements of layoffs. Just a honest answer.
