One of the skills I have seen others leveraging to get into other industries is project management. I see a lot of job postings for project/program managers stating PMP certification is preferred. Is it worth it to get the PMP certification?

No, not worth it
@3dzy+18qCka1d SAFe is widely known outside of the company to be horse excrement
SAFe certs are also another option
@2xzr+18qCka1d I remember this joke from EMIT as well, there are a ton of PMPs but relatively few flaunt it
We used to joke that those that put PMP in their email signature were bad PMs and the good PMs just put their name in their signature without advertising a worthless certification
certifications will never hurt you, but the certification industry overweights their importance. If you can prove you've managed huge multi-million $$$ projects , that's 1000x more impactful than saying you're a PMP
PMP is often a “gatekeeper” certification for PM jobs even if the company’s internal methodology is different, so yes it is worth it
I think you answered your own question, OP. Assuming you want to be a project manager.
No. You'll study lots of structured methods and always be told "yeah but we don't do that here because we're different". True at every company I've ever been at
