Beware Earnings

So earnings is set for this Friday, after market-close, before a long holiday break?

That’s a pretty classic tactic to bury bad news. Seems a bit sketchy to me.

Let's not forget electricity, heating/cooling that would normally not be running during the day, desk/chair/monitor and other ergonomic needs. Supposedly we're getting "help" with that through a portal in January, but I would bet it's a token discount on overpriced products. I would be shocked if there was reimbursement for money already spent out of pocket.

I've spent well over $1000 on the above already this year, and as @3wet mentioned, no cost of living increase. Meanwhile company is saving a ton of money on T&E and marketing/promo since essentially all live sporting events are either cancelled or limited attendance. This was all fine while we waited to see how things were going to shake out, but now that we're trending back to growth its time to take care of these costs.

Maybe @3wet was already efficient with his spending and wasn’t necessarily spending $ by going to work. Maybe they rode the max on a free Nike pass, maybe they already brought their lunch from home, maybe they’re not in a position where they are judged for not wearing the latest releases - thus aren’t spending a bunch of $ at the ES. Maybe they had to increase their internet speed (+$$$) to download all the useless decks and to run both video & audio at the same time on Zoom. Maybe they had to buy a new chair and desk/table that is comfortable to sit at for 8+ hours a day.

I thought we had learned not to assume we know what other peoples’ situations are (family, financial, health, discrimination, etc) in 2020. Come on people, be better.

@3wet Yes, what extra costs are you incurring by working from home? Personally I’m SAVING money working from home. Much less gasoline being purchased, I’m saving an hour each day of time I’m not commuting, I switched to mileage-based car insurance (and am now paying 60% less), I eat lunch at home instead of eating out everyday, and I’ve bought almost no new clothes or shoes in a year.

How on Earth are you incurring extra expenses working from home, and how are those not offset by savings from working from home?

@3wet Care to tell us what all of these extra costs are you lament about? I’ve spent nothing extra since March.

I’m still paid in cash and I still didn’t get a cost of living increase and haven’t seen any reimbursement for the extra costs I’m paying to work from home.

@3oxl+18qY2TiC, it's weird if stocks don't go up a bit after these calls... give it a few days.

All the negative speculation was unfounded. Nailed it by beating numbers from last year!!!

@GoneButNotForgotten the quarter ends the same time, but the call dates are discretionary.

Even Analyst Camilo Lyon cited the odd earnings report time of late Friday as an "eyebrow-raising, conspiracy-theory inducing" time. Maybe it will be like the disappointing LULU results?

In any case, nice job revealing bias (options) and invalidating someone with polarizing language like “crazy.”

This site is really amazing to watch/read. Second only to Twitter for conspiracy theory & crazy talk.
Nike hit an all time high on 12/9. The quarter ends the same time every year and the earnings call follows. +$3 yesterday and pre-market up today.

I'll ride my options for the 4 years allowed.

Agreed.

Add to that all of the recent “Statement of Changes in Beneficial Earnings” filings from AC, PK, HO, et al., $NKE has peaked.
