Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Newish....Year End was a joke, is it pointless to escalate?

I've only been with the company for a few years, so I don't have as much context. My midyear and year end reviews were a joke.....off track/BE......and no follow ups, feedback, expectations, etc.

Other places I've worked there were formal processes for situations like these....do I just accept it and do nothing? Any options that are worth while or do I just pickup the job search and hope for the best?

You should set up weekly meetings if possible with your manager and review each goal.
Write meeting notes after and send them to the manager and point out as per conversation all goals are being met
If manager has feedback for you to improve on some goals incorporate that feedback and go back over it to make sure everything is in order

If your manager does not or cannot make these meetings they are incompetent or don't care about you

If they sandbag you at mid year or end of year you pullout the email and ask where's the proof.

A manager will try to do the least amount of work where it means the least
they will not care about your career more than you

Uh... haven’t you heard? BE is a quota. If not you, then someone else. May be time to move on. Good luck.

You deserve better and you're right when you say it's different in other workplaces. Don't stay somewhere you're not valued. They're really is little point doing anything apart from making a plan to move departments or leave the company

I've been full time for 3 years now. Last department always got meets. Every time. 2 weeks after I started in my current role, one of my co-workers got laid off, and I got thrown into their position with no help/training from my direct manager. Needless to say, I was given below for both mid year and year end, claiming I didn't improve early enough in the year. Total BS. I'm not happy about it, but I was expecting it, because this manager gives everyone c-appy reviews... (though a few still get meets.)

About the only thing one can do is continually pester the manager to develop a remediation plan. Insist on it and keep insisting. Most of the time that doesn't work, since the manager just moves on, and frankly, you probably are doing a great job but someone had to take the BE hit to make the numbers. On the acknowledgement, use the comments to indicate that you insist on a plan to get you back on target. Put your manager on the spot and keep putting him/her on the spot. Use the Goal Setting process early in the year to reinforce the request for a plan. And pray that next time, the BE arrow hits someone else. Oh, and going to HR is absolutely useless!

Place is a joke.. If you look in the faq of year end performance, it said something like, this is only an acceptance that you & you manager spoke of this, not whether you agree.. Pathetic but if you move it along, the next screen you the option to comment. Useless, I know.. but you can vent..
