Thread regarding IBM layoffs

IBM CEO Arvind Krishna needs new business cards already after appointment as board chair

Having the CEO and Chairman role combined is generally seen as bad practice, and it was Enron using this practice that partly drove the creation of Sarbanes-Oxley. Checkout Investopedia https://www.investopedia.com/financial-edge/0912/3-reasons-to-separate-ceo-and-chairman-positions.aspx

Whilst I am sure there are no plans to do a Ken Lay, I don't think this will inspire investor confidence in IBM. The ship is sinking and more bits will be sold off to keep the stock price afloat, but in the end the lack of innovation and financial engineering will engulf it.

I would love to know what question you could ask Ginni that you would be willing to pay 10k for the answer. I would rather spend the money with Bain. She has demonstrated a complete lack of vision as to where the industry is heading, since signing on as CEO, and I doubt that her retirement has made her any more well informed. Certainly she knows the intrinsic value of “legacy” IBM, and perhaps that is what AK is putting his faith in. Getting an office at corporate and using the jet are typical parting CEO gifts from IBM. I believe AK would be wise to just say “please leave” as Bain has already valued “legacy” IBM, and delivered a transformation plan. Unless Ginni is part of the Newco management operation going forward, I don’t see where she provides any value vs the consultants.

I want that job too: spending seven years to drive a multibillion business off the cliff, then coming back to double dip on 4 hours/week gig, and getting paid for one million cool dollars, plus using the corporate jet. It is so challenging that even my dog can't do it.

And the Eagle has landed $10K per day for answering a question, or $20K if the answer takes more than 4 hours. Must be nice.
