Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

why AT&T WILL FAIL:

The knocks on AT&T have a more-tangy aftertaste

1-Its legacy landline business and DIRECTV are fading.

2- WM & wireless it's so desperate to make HBO Max work that it's giving away the premium streaming service to its smartphone customers.

3- It raided its next 13 months of theatrical releases to give the streaming platform day-and-date access to its multiplex slate mostly for free.

4- None of this will be enough to get HBO Max to the Disney level HBO Max may have just 8.6 million activations, but that's just 23% of the combined HBO and HBO Max subscribers.

5- If AT&T can get all of its old-time HBO accounts to make the migration to HBO Max will costs roughly twice as much Disney+, so on a revenue basis.

6- HBO Max will eventually learn that it will need more than raiding the WarnerMedia release slate to keep up with the big boys.

7- Recently Downgraded again. AT&T IS not competitive in the 5G to market, as its been buried by T-Mobile.

Just as Disney+ wowed investors by announcing 10 Marvel and 10 Star Wars series earlier this month, HBO Max will have to squeeze its intellectual properties to make lemonade. HBO can't just fight the way it did to get to the top of the premium-cable realm.

Gameover by 2022!

Someone sez: "Anyone whining about legacy divisions like DirectTv and landline . . ."
You just called DTV legacy. You realize AT&T acquired it around 2014 right? And I distinctly remember that over-paid, glorified accountant, Randall Stephenson saying how superior the technology was for video distribution compared to fiber. This, boys and girls, is why you don't hire an accountant to run a tech company. Just a few years later he blurted out in front of an investors that they had launched their last satellite, effectively telegraphing their intention to sell. It didn't take too long for our former CEO to turn a bright future into a dark, dark vision of hell. That's talent. LOL!

Okay so some of you on here thinking too big to fail or government around the corner for a bailout better think again. I don’t know if you have noticed but ummm there is this pandemic thing going around and it’s costing a f—ing sh–load of money the government doesn’t have to begin with.
AT&T isn’t a bank where financial insecurity would lead the country into a Great Depression. No the country would do just fine without AT&T. Verizon and T-Mobile can pick up the slack...which they do anyway.

“Double down on stupid”. That is the AT&T management philosophy at every level from the top to the bottom. That is why AT&T will eventually fail. That, and the fact that they have succeeded in making their work force despise them. Hey John, if you are reading this, remember this, “Attitude reflects leadership”. Not that you care.

If I had told you years ago that GM would fail you would not have believed me.
We have the best 5G network Stankey said so.

Before you say it can' t fail look at its debt vs. its book value. So what would happen if all the loans were called in tomorrow. It is kind of like upper management is running a ponzi scheme.

Disney is entertainment for children and family. HBO is not in the same class it is R rated. Because of that it will never attain the success of Disney; it is a different market.

Perhaps the direct tv subscriber loss can be fixed. There must be a reason why people are leaving.

T has been around for 140 years give or take and definitely isn’t going to fail anytime soon! Probably just wishful thinking on your part! If it does encounter any serious financial challenges, there’s always a government bailout right around the corner...

Anyone who thinks one of the three big Telcos in America will "fail" is delusional. T has so much cashflow with its wireless business alone , the reason they pay millions for the spectrum is to have a guaranteed source of stable revenue.. Literally a monkey could run T and not have it fail, its that stable.

Anyone whining about legacy divisions like DirectTv and landline, is very out of date and not in touch with 2020 and beyond trends.

T isn't going anywhere, some of its employees maybe but thats just how capitalism works..

T-Mobile is the first telecom carrier to activate nationwide 5G network.
It arguably has America’s largest 5G network, covering 270 million people in 8,300 cities and towns across 1.4 million square miles.
This reflects more geographic coverage than its nearest two rivals put together, AT&T & VERIZON, and they did this in 5 years, A...mazing

As long as there are million of people sending money every month AT&T will be just fine. a few bumps along the way, but long term they will continue to be OK>
