OP needs to do some research. Directv is absolutely still profitable. The question is, will they be 3,5,10 years from now.? AT&T did their best to run them in the ground, because they believed their streaming platforms could replace Directv. So far, that hasn't happened. Streaming isn't the end all, for all customers.
DTV is an obsolete useless technology - this is why no one wants to touch it - except of course the genius Stank ....

Actually, DirecTV does make money.
We charge people $7.99 every month for rental on their refurbished receivers that were paid off 6 or 7 years ago - pure profit.
We charge people for the DirecTV Protection Plan that returns 83% in profit - money for nothing.
We charge for service calls, we extend the 2-year contracts if you change anything, we charge for replacement remotes, we charge for advice - we do nothing for free anymore.
Why else would any PE Firm bother to invest.
