Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Unfortunately, with all of the unemployment and cord cutting for free or cheaper services, cable tv is a luxury and not a necessity, I can see ATT not taking a big hit on the loss and just retaining DirectTV. If they did sell it, I can't see them laying off immediately because the folks that make DirectTV are going to be needed for a while. My advice would be to try to get into the wireless side of the business because cell phones are a necessity. If you are younger, I would recommend moving into a more stable career. Regardless of the auction sale, with the way cord cutting and new options for free tv, movies, series, etc. This will continue even if Direct TV stays around. Similar to the dying landline business.

I work at DTV. Question is what happens to us if we are sold? Specifically I work on AT&T TV... does that get sold with DTV or will AT&T retain it?

I heard how DISH is dropping tons of local channels so not sure if a merger with them even makes sense. We are moving away from satellite and are simply a data over IP service at this point.

DTV is unfortunately a dead business... Stank is a mo–n who ruined the company by paying too much - made poor employees pay for it. In my mind he is the new generation of white collar criminal. Yes, he has committed a crime in my book - because he is just incompetent and ruined lives. If nothing else Karma will get this guy someday and will pay for what he did.

Why are they fleeing? they can get comcast internet?

What about those rural persons? They can't flee to anything except the new satellite internet.
So how many "captive" customers are there. That would be a lower limit on what we could lose.
What costs are there? The satellites are already up there. Perhaps lowering the price would stop people from leaving. What is the current cost per customer. If that is more than what the customer is going to pay elsewhere for the service then surely they will leave if they can.

The Stank is delusional. That's what's happening here. He's behaving like someone who thinks he has all the cards, and can coerce bidders into anteing up, when he has no cards at all.

Destroyed, shrinking business with a poor near-term future (subscribers fleeing in droves) and no long term future (no more satellites).

The bidders are smart.

The delusional Stank thinks that he has some gem that he should be able to make bidders pay (whatever price he has in mind) for.

The bidders are all, like, "Umm, no".

It is the height of arrogance that you make a bad decision, forced to try to mitigate it because of another bad decision, complain when you don't get your valuation, and threaten to take your ball and go home. And objective board of directors would not put up with this.

They made a bad deal and as revenge are giving employees a raw deal in an effort to recoup some costs to make up for overpaying for DTV in the first place
