Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Here’s the thing about AT&T

It was once a great company to work for, and it once provided a great product for the consumer. Neither one is true any longer. Us old timers might as well stick it out as long as we can. It’s going to be better than any alternatives. For younger folks, AT&T is still going to be as good, or better, than any options they have. Globalization has eff’ed us all over. Not much we can do about that.

The pay disparities in the company are ridiculous. This attract and retain plan further ensures that folks just shy of the median tenure will continue to be underpaid and receive less. This “market alignment” bs is simply a way to keep salaries depressed after 5 yrs: pay to get people in, then barely move them on salary scale regardless of advanced education, and cap them at about 20-25 yrs tenure.

When looking back at history, you need to distinguish between the AT&T headquartered in Baskin Ridge NJ and the AT&T that is SBC. SBC has always been a bare bones, cheap operation

Every year for the past 15, something gets taken away or the financial burden on employees is increased.

Of course, the compensation and perks for everyone running this into the ground have only increased.

I can't even imagine what it'll be like in another 15. Things are not getting better any time soon for anyone outside the c-suite.

Never for a minute believed any of the rah rah c-ap. Played the game...wasn’t always possible to be very effective because of the c-appy management. But cashed out nicely with a 80K severance, unemployment and a record high lump and SS! Bye bye ATT!
