Most of the CEOs in Bay Area went up the ladder starting as engineers. CEOs with engineering background do well in general in Bay Area.
Most of the top level executives in security BU left after the big fiasco with shipping security code without contract. Cisco had to pay $3 billion dollars. Who was held accountable? May be these top level executives left because of the lawsuit ?

The CEO role at Cisco doesn't need to understand business or technology. Essentially the CEO role at Cisco is responsible for convincing Wall Street & Pension Funds we are an innovative technology company.

Sorry, Never impressed with Reed. He was a Sr Director coming into Cisco. He was lucky to ride the coattails of others for years. Not really a loss at all. However, he probably understood Cisco’s business more than Chuck the mathematician/sales guy if that says anything about the leadership team.

They all went to Google. Cisco cannot compete with google on compensation, stocks and bonus. They are hiring big time now in cloud. They doubled their compensation and salary for sure.
Google stock is doing better than cisco for years. Cisco golden years were in the 90s... it split close 7-9 times !!

Cisco needs to hold on to there top technical talent in security like leads and architects. They are key to the business.

"In August, Reed took over as SVP and GM of cloud and network security. While in the position, he oversaw the advancement of the company’s SASE platform, which ties together elements of SD-WAN and managed security into a single cloud-delivered offering."

While in that position he spent time culling his workforce and searching for a position outside of Cisco. Sorry, but 4 months in a leadership role equals you being responsible for nothing. Most likely situation was that he got the role and then the curtain was pulled back and he realized he wanted no part of what was coming.

I can almost picture Chuck throwing his 9 iron into the water when he learned another senior exec was leaving. Something is seriously wrong when you lose so many of your senior team in quick succession. David Goeckeler (March), Amy Chang (March? No loss), Anuj Kapur (June), Kelly Kramer (July), Irving Tan (December), Jeff Reed (December). Anyone else at that level?

If you need to make that many changes to your team that often maybe the problem is you....
