I hear more and more colleagues and people from other companies in the automotive industry saying that they would prefer to leave not only the companies but also the entire industry. I understand, the pandemic has devastated auto-industry growth, but still I would never leave it. I wonder if there are any of you who would rather move on from this industry and where would you ideally like to go?

I would love to leave and go to something that seems it more greatly impacts people's lives in a good way, but I'm 52 and feel that there's no changing now!
No article has some truth to it. In the 2000's you started to see people not only leave the state but the automotive business. I have friends who tell their kids to leave the state and not tp pursue a career in automotive. Grant it these are different times than what it was say 30-40 years ago. If I was fresh out of college I would not pursue a career in automotive. To much uncertain in this business right now. One of the things that attracted talent was benefits along with decent pay. Ford still has pension for salaried people hired before 01 but it will only be a matter of time before they freeze it. You then wonder what those people do that were part of that will do? Plus this working form home ,, you can work from any state now.
auto is still a great place to be, its just changing.
left for a job w/ tesla at the beginning of the year and kid you not its night and day. hard to describe but this place is what I imagine detroit felt like in the golden years of auto. imagine going into the factory and everything looks bright and new and everyone wants to be there. all that * uaw noise is gone to.
Good businesses are ethical businesses. A business model that relies on trickery is doomed to fail.
Not to worry it is natures way the weak die. Business are just like biology, everything has an expiration date. Observe and find your own path.
OP, are you under the impression that the auto industry is the only industry declining right now?
Pick up a newspaper, get informed. Oh, and btw, 2021 will make 2020 look like a picnic.
