Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

This is so annoying

I'm so tired of people who keep telling everybody to just be happy to have a job. It's that kind of mentality that led us to where we are right now - barely any benefits, doing the work of two or three people for no extra pay, out-of-control toxic managers... But hey, at least we have a job so don't you dare complain!

For as long as that kind of thinking is prevalent, AT&T will continue to take advantage of that. And then you wonder why our working conditions keep deteriorating...

I agree, my uneducated manager kept saying be glad you have a job, I wanted to say be glad you have a job.

I agree, you should stop complaining and find another ‘opportunity’ that values you and whatever skill set you have to offer. What an ungrateful company you work for, reducing benefits, not patting you on the head and telling you how lucky they are that you’ve chosen to work for them.
It’s time for you to leave and stop complaining. After all, the company will miss you when you’re gone...

A lot of people have a corporate Stockholm syndrome; they defend their very captors. That being said, I think a lot of people have their line in the water so to speak, and if something bites they will go. A job at a near utility like AT&T is supposed to be less risk, and therefore less reward. We won't get rich at AT&T, but we will have a stable place to work. This is a deal a lot of people with kids in school, or approaching retirement will take. But AT&T has provided no stability, and broken their end of the deal. It's Rewardless Risk now.

The best way to survive AT&T is to not care anymore! They beat you down constantly by micromanaging and stupid rules to abide by every month some new thing or hoop you have to jump through! Buy your time bump your 401(k) to the max get out of there ASAP!
Collect as much OT as possible before you leave!!

The problem is too many chiefs and not enough Indians. You chiefs are absolutely clueless. You will be gone soon. Another 50k “managers” will be laid off soon. Your contribution to the company is absolutely ZERO. Just think what you might put on a resume...absolutely no tech skills. Be happy you have a job...dork! You are done. Dead man walking. Don’t blame att, blame yourself!!!

Someone said: "The simple truth is we’re all expendable in today’s marketplace. If there was a huge demand for what we do we wouldn’t be having this conversation and the company would doing everything it could to attract and keep people long term."

To be more accurate I think that the incompetent executives of this poorly managed corporation think experienced people are expendable and easily replaceable by cheap contractors. They are wrong and the result is that they are destroying the company by replacing expertise with inexperienced H1Bs. Do they care? Nope. "Leadership" are parasites.

The new managers in my area seem to think that their job requires them to deal out punishment and to actively look for faults to ding us with. When we have supervisors that tell us to take care of yourself , helping you isn't my job ! , well then we don't have supervisors , we have useless incompetent dictators .

Management can keep saying we are lucky to have jobs, not listening, multi taking on more important stuff. They can keep yapping all they want, not wasting time and energy on the bs.

"Some sound advice on Christmas Eve. If the conditions are so bad you have to complain like you have, QUIT. You are not tethered to your job.
QUIT if you are that unhappy. YOU are toxic. YOU deflate the office morale. But stay and complain. Get all worked up. Feel horrible, sit at your desk and do the bare minimum. Make life terrible for all around you. But today and tomorrow, have a wonderful Christmas."

No, you precious little cheerleader, +170 Billion dollars of debt after failure after failure, none of which should had happened, and the way our "leaders" are trying to extricate themselves from the mess they orchestrated is what is toxic.

It's the beat slave mentality that so many in this company now have. We have three levels of employees at this company - the lords, their whip crackers, and the slaves.

As long as the slaves meekly continue to take the abuse management will continue to dish it out. If the workers stood together they could improve their working conditions. If they do nothing and listen to abusive managers telling them to be grateful they have a job, nothing will improve.

Yes, it's annoying. People think like medieval serfs. Give the lord of the manner the benefit of the doubt and blame yourself. That's a recipe for never getting what you deserve. Let the big guys take it all. Until we learn what a guillotine is for we will remain serfs.

No...attitude has nothing to do with it. Tell us what you’ve done or can do to change that? What do you think all of us should do? Crickets. Probably because there isn’t much you can do. The simple truth is we’re all expendable in today’s marketplace. If there was a huge demand for what we do we wouldn’t be having this conversation and the company would doing everything it could to attract and keep people long term. Plus it’s not exactly like the “and the hits keep coming” at AT&T. Been steadily losing market share and getting rid of failed acquisitions. When a company gets to that point you usually have 2 options...keep plugging away and avoiding the axe as best you can or leaving for something better. And right now depending on where you’re at, unless you’re willing to relocate, the pickings are kind of slim. I’m sorry, but to think otherwise, is just being an ostrich with your head in the sand. I wish it wasn’t that way but it’s kind of what the workplace has evolved to in our industry.
