Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

New College Hires

I get the fact that you dont want an age gap in your talent, but you’d think that in a hundred year pandemic the company might say ‘hmmm, maybe we can hold off on hiring for A YEAR!’.

Before anyone screams, I also get that college grads are ‘cheap’, but it’s the principle of it. How many of the 2000 jobs lost could have been saved if the useless interns (sorry, I was one at one point and they never deliver value, it’s just a recruiting tool) and brand new college hires were paused for a year. Use your heads HR and higher ups.

It's university relations (which this f—ng company needs seriously).

we need young people because they are the easiest to determine if they are good kool-aid drinkers or not. And they are the best at idolizing the middle managers and doing everything they are told without question. The middle managers are the brains of this company, just ask them, and they need peasants to willfully follow.their every command. That is a big problem in this company, too many employees with their own thoughts, suggestions, and ways to improve our work processes and financial performance. This is why only the god pod and the few choosen get RSUs, because we are the only ones with any brains and we know how to "fix" this company. Had it not been for the rest of you, this company would not be flailing in the ditch.

Dude, companies don’t care about their workers. Wake up. Stop dreaming.

They may keep a couple interns from target schools to make sure they keep good relations with the university recruiting.

Agree 100% the unwillingness to pull offers is unbelievable. On top of that how many of the new hires will actually stick around? The environment is awful right now. No training. They will pay to train these new grads and then watch them all resign.

Fully agree with you OP, I saw many good employees PIPed last year while the same department was hiring brand new fresh grads who knew nothing on control system and would had to be trained on everything. So they terminated excellent experienced and fully trained people and hired new people with zero experience and zero knowledge of the systems they would be using! Only one word can describe this process - insanity!
