Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

This place used to be good

I don't know if this is because my 20th anniversary is approaching and I'm being hit with nostalgia, but I miss the Exxon of old. I miss being proud of working here and having managers who knew what they were doing. Who were in this with us and acted that way. There were always layoffs but there wasn't always toxic work environment that we have now. It's sad what this once great company has turned into.

ExxonMobil and good in the same sentence? You must be living in a dream world

This is what a bad CEO can do to a company.. classic example for business schools on the rise and fall on the once great corporation.

Would feel really good to anyone without a job now. You may think climate change is the most important priority in everyone's life, but you can only speak for yourself. Most people think feeding and housing their family is job 1, with healthcare, education and crime close behind. When they get everybody warm, fed, healthy and safely off to work and school, they get ready to do it again the next day. They leave the elites to fret about climate change and hold down jobs paying $200k a year but still complaining.

How does it feel to be apart of a company that actively lied about climate change and spread misinformation to be the company that it is today?

20 years? You were hired when it was already ExxonMobil.

seems like a general cultural feeling. Not just ExxonMobil.
but in my 10 years in EM, i've also seen a decline in professionalism and comradery.
so it's been a pretty steady slope.

At 20 years though - just stop seeking fulfillment in your job and find better things outside.
At EM, just consider yourself a highly paid ditch-digger.
They know how to forget about the work.

You’re right! ExxonMobil was once a great place to work but, these days it’s pure barnyard work...shoveling sh. I’m an Admin but, not just any Admin..a DA good one! I didn’t get to climb the ladder because my boss was too selfish. He didn’t promote me because he didn’t want to deal with the nonsense that SOME Admins bring. I handled it all... from mentoring, dealing with the lazy protected AdmIns to interviewing Contract Admins and providing input on which to hire, which Admins to move in/out. I didn’t get the title or salary of an Executive Admin instead ExxonMobil now chooses to give all Admins the same title. You choose to put incompetent, racist, Admins who play favoritism in positions supporting Executives then enjoy the ride. You may have saved yourself from a lawsuit but, continue to work Admins like work horses without OT pay and you may not be lucky twice. I’ll sit back and wait.

It’s the same feeling in the Far East as well. Fully agree with your comment on the good old ESSO that has lost it’s shine. It will take a Herculean task to restore it to it’s past glory. The changing business environment will make it even more challenging, given the Very large base it has built. The business model need to change and I hope the Management see this and do something about it..

If you are celebrating your 20th, you didn't even know tbe Exxon of old (pre-merger)... really solid people, with integrity, who knew what there were doing. Got a lot of dead weight since then. But I see what you mean - there still were pretty decent people around in the 00's. It's a wasteland now, just like every other company.

Find peace in knowing that we are not alone. My friends at Shell are undergoing the same pain. I’m sure it’sh–ting all O&G. But, hey... let’s give management a pat on the back for continuing to offshore our jobs. We’ve already seen food lines because of the Covid pandemic but, next it will be because there are no jobs!
