I've never worked for a company so eager to purge a talented workforce. The only equivalent I can think of would be Stalin's great purge, but that was done for loyalty purposes. The NS's purge is pure greed.
I'm obviously not talking about management levels, which shockingly remain near the same despite a near 50% force reduction. Sure technology is wonderful, but can a wayside detector and or camera really do the same job as a human with 15+ years of experience working on a car or locomotive? Obviously a computer isn't smart enough to say its not a major defect, let it roll. I wish the FRA would mandate every time a wayside camera detector alerted of some minor defect the car must be shopped and have the defect corrected. That would bring the company to a halt pretty fast. One can dream right?
