Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

For those let go, when does the gas discount expire?

For those who were let go, when did your gas discount expire? Was it effective immediately upon your separation date? Also, did you have to do anything if your balance was previously paid out of your paycheck?

Depends on where you live. In Spring the Exxon is about .02 more and for premium it’s usually the same price.

Getting over to Costco can be a pain and is rarely more than .10 cents difference.

Now when prices rise I find Exxon is the first to do so.

In the North East forget about it. both Exxon and Mobil stations are over priced and I never use them.

If you don’t have it GetUpside pays you a rebate at certain stations and some Exxon’s are on so you get to double dip. I think GasBuddy has a similar program now too.

Just waiting for my card to cancel.

Agree with the above posters. Cheaper elsewhere. I've been saying they need to revamp that benefit. I only use my card/app if I'm on fumes! And then I only put in like $5 to get me to something cheaper.

I resigned voluntarily early last year. Rather than re-rate my account from discount to non-discount, Citi closed my account within a month. I don't miss it. Who needs extra cards. I tied my visa to the Chevron app for hands-free, if needed.

Our setup causes us to LOSE money too and lots of it.. While Costco and grocery chains are making money and their stock prices are doing well.

Large chains don't make money on the gasoline they sell. In fact, their setup actually causes them to LOSE money. The loss on gasoline sales they take is made up for when you go into their stores a buy a whole bunch of junk from them.

Their model has nothing to do with value chain nor making money on fuels.

Costco, Walmart and grocery chains have the lowest price and they do this without owning or opetating: crude oil fields; global infrastructure; crude tankers; docks; refineries; chemical plants; rail cars; pipelines; terminals; and delivery trucks.

So much for our managements "Value Chain" and "Synergy Gasiline" model and approach.

No incentive.. Had been going for the lost cost fuel that met specification! Being very honest .. they are all the same.. why pay more?

@hcv+196onwo0 Nope, my memo was from the EM credit card itself and it does not say I am going to pay the difference. The EM systems are dumb enough to not terminate it ASAP and it continued to give me discounts, why would I not use it. I might continue to gas at Exxon even though I was terminated, I don't keep grudges and feel awesome.

Until you get a surprise bill for the difference. Maybe this was why you got let go in July..

I was let go in July and continued to use it. And then I got an email from the card itself that they are terminating my account effective end of Jan. What I am saying is just use it until you get the memo, you continue to cha-ching.

A fuels senior manager admitted in a meeting he buys his gas at Costco.

Why would you ever purchase EM gasoline. It is always more expensive than other brands and even with the employee discount many brands are still less expensive. Other brands also have great loyalty programs that offer very good discounts from the street price. And while we are here, what is Synergy and what does it have to do with marketing gasoline ? Who thought that one up and then who approved it? Most likely a god pod VP after spending millions researching a new name and marketing program and then ignoring the results. Must have cost a small fortune to pay for all the pumps to be changed to Synergy, maybe we could have had fewer terminations if that money had not been spent or we could sink another XTO hole in the sinking Permian play.
