Is yelling the only thing Nike managers know how to do? Is that the absolute maximum level of communication they're able to achieve when asking something of their subordinates? What happened to civilized communication? To talking, discussing, and even encouraging? Is bullying now the obligatory management style?

If the manager is really good, he/she probably left Nike already or was promoted. The yelling, rude bullies are stuck and they know it. That is why they are taking their frustrations out on their subordinates.
Simple.
The magic is gone. They thought they knew how to produce it, they can not explain why it is no longer happening.
This has happened a couple of times before.
Sometimes it is luck, sometimes you get it right, but when it turns, it is ugly.
