Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Nothing has changed since 1970...

but everything is much worse...

When I was a new hire I was told that the raises went to the more senior experienced managers and that I would appreciate the treatment when I arrived decades later. I got the big “$ 800 team” award.
When I became a senior experienced manager I was told that we didn’t meet fianancial objectives EVER from about 1984 to 2005 and that there would be no raises for “us”. But the new hires would jump ship if they don’t get raises so
that group would get the raises and besides us old folks were making more than the younger unexperienced unknowledgable managers. Those of us who knew something, did all of the work would get those valuable stock awards - toilet paper was more valuable as it was at least tangible and had a worth.
Glad to see things haven’t changed since 1970.

Whoever wrote this on one of the threads below, I absolutely agree.

@qq1

Glad you read my post. Too bad you didn't understand it. How did you determine that I was 10 or 11?
In 1970, I completed my Electrical Engineering Degree from UT Austin.
Simple Age Math

  1. High School 17 Y.O.
  2. College 21
  3. Southwestern Bell Hire 21
  4. Retired 30 years later 51
  5. Retired for 16 years 67

Bingo Dumb Azz —I'm 67
And yes, I engineered or supervised Techs and/or supervised management responsible for SXS, #5 Xbar, 1A, 1ESS, NT, WE, Rockwell,
Ericsson, Summa, Lorain, T1's ,D4, DACS, MUX, IBM, Motorola, Microwave, DTS, STP's, SCP's, IDST's among some of my accomplishments. And while I didn't work the Divestiture & LATA boundaries, I worked alongside folks that did.
I would guess that I probably forgot more about telephony than you will ever know.
Did I miss anything? 'O btw - I retired AVP level.

@bxo - and that is why I am calling BS on that post as this obviously non-AT&T employee troll who knows absolutely nothing about how things were in 1970 and doubtfully anything after divestiture.

Comment to the OP of the BS thread: 1970 was 51 years ago. You were, what, 10 or 11 if your hired out in 1970?

I was hired in 1979 and got raises every year.
And COLA at the start.
I still have my health insurance, and my HRA.
But I was never a "senior experienced manager". ;)
