Thread regarding IBM layoffs

IBM HR troll topic

OK - IBM HR trolling has been pointed out a couple of times.

Let's face it.. the role IBM HR is to support the policies and needs of IBM management (NOT employees)
so whether specifically directed, or on individual initiative, trolling this site (and the related Facebook/Alliance/etc groups) is just "part of their job" in supporting the mgmt/execs.

Here's what I have observed in browsing this site recently and from my own experience:

1) IBM job experience on a resume may not be value add (this is from observations and conversations with many departed over several decades) - if the IBM experience was part of a multi-company resume background it probably did not detract.. so I tend to agree if you are just joining, and you need a job/income, it satisfies that, but long-term prospects are poor... keep looking... expect to move soon

2) IBM was at one time (with 300-400 thousand employees) so "job-diversified" (almost nothing was outsourced) that the spectrum of experience/opportunity was virtually limitless (eg I could consider finding some role in Quantum Computing, or Real Estate acquisition, if my Personal Development session with my first line mgr concluded that was a valid goal.... geez I can't believe I even remember the PE/PD annual cycle).

When IBM (once) had "respect for the individual" they did recognize and nurture talent.. that is long gone - at one time a "secretary" (part of Administration) could train and move to be a Top 500 Client Exec and earn repeated 6 figures... sadly, note that the Client Exec role was recently reduced in this last round of RA/re-org (up to 90% reduction?}

IBM (exec) does not realize their (long term/repeat buy) corporate success was based on customer trust in their salespeople/local IBM team, not really in the technology.. well, except the mainframe.. but that's a much different story

3) IBM does not recognize/respect talent.. that is a simple fact.. if you are really looking for that, read Reed Hastings HR document/Powerpoint.. life at Netflix sounds rewarding but demanding... there are other amazing HR environments.. comparing GBS to the other big firms does not open your aperture enough.. or if you want security get a Public Sector job... I had shied away form those from college graduation but when I look at peers/neighbors retiring from PS... damn they have pensions!

For the IBM HR partners that are reading/trolling - this IBM experience is a wind down experience.. I guess useful if you think the economy is tanking and there will always be wind-down HR jobs ("how to hide workforce reductions and not have to report conscious RAs") - if you want a "be part of growth" experience, like the excitement/enthusiasm on Shark Tank).. look around... has not the Red Hat excitement worn off by now?

As was posted recently in response to the post about the Langley case court docs.....

When HR is corrupt and is "hunting" it's own employees and not the competition, you know you have a problem.
