Work balance Issues

How is it some people and groups have time to come in late, take long lunches, go to the gym in the free noon etc while others don’t even have time to eat lunch, work crazy hours, etc.

I’m not taking about the obvious cases of someone who is inefficient. I’m talking about groups that have had their headcount slashed to the bone while others are over staffed. Couldn’t we at least transfer people to level the burden a bit?

Yeah we don’t even have the capability to execute projects on time or under budget any more. We don’t have the people or capability to meaningfully monitor employees WFH other than “green light” lol

Get a f—ing grip people. IT are not monitoring your camera, your keystrokes or Skype presence. You id–ts have no idea.

Working the extra hours on daily basis is ridiculous. You are covering for your bosses poor decisions. Groups with more than enough employees, had good managers which could justify the workload and will not be willing to give any people up. However in XTO's case they could be looking at being sold, so its better for them to be puffy.

@fls+19EcLbnN this is so true for operations but having been on both sides it’s generally the opposite for HQ. The campus is a huge drain on the company in many ways.

You’re exactly the type I see and have a problem with. Thinking if someone is working long hours they are lazy or unorganized or maybe even worse yet that they want to work the hours.

Spring campus is a playground for Gen Z and Gen Z wannabes, not a place to be a productive worker and produce profitable goods and services. The whole premise of the campus is woke and after almost 8 years that is very evident. Another great deal brought to you by Tillerson and the Board and Woods. Also, would have been nice if Tillerson had forgone the $200+ billion stock buybacks, been nice to have had that money to help us all weather through this downturn and pandemic, but Tillerson and his buddies needed a higher stock price so they could be secure in their retirement. And yes, they spy on your keystrokes, your security badges in/out of campus/buildings, and on your laptop camera.

Everyone who works with operations have a HARD work life balance.
Managers pretend they don’t see it.
Also most of Managers have spouse at home....if they have both parents working I bet they would think different.
Can anyone tell me anyone of the executives who both parents work?

You can end up with long hours quite easily if you work directly with a plant. The unit crashes, has discovery work, on and on and on... Then three weeks later something else. It seems it comes in cycles.

@xhu+19EcLbnN - second this

The only thing I would add is the people who "work" these crazy hours also wear them like some badge of honor and opt to continue working them rather than finding efficiencies.

However, there are some people out there who have no choice but are stuff in a tough role without room for improvement. All the respect to those folks.

There are a lot more people who talk about their crazy hours and heavy workload than people who actually have them. On top of that, a big share of those people with “crazy hours” work them by choice or so horrendously unproductive that it takes them a long time to do what a normal person can complete in a normal day.

There is an XTO Supervisor who has a morning social hour with some of his team to discuss favorite show. Then the same folks go to the gym for up to two hours only to return to their desk to eat lunch. Those on the same team that didn’t participate felt the pressure and were ultimately dismissed. I watched from the sidelines and noticed that is was clearly motivated by racism and discrimination. I hope that these folks have joined together for a class action lawsuit since HR turned the other way. So, smile, play the games or get out to save your sanity.

IT has the ability to monitor key strokes per minute and mouse movements through the ergonomic software. Maybe IT and your manager is monitoring productivity for the office staff for the next round of PIP's and NSI's.

Not to mention all the people who schedule meetings to “catch up” with their friends during work hours.
