Another New EcoBoost Lawsuit

Excerpt from Detroit News today (https://www.detroitnews.com/restricted/?return=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.detroitnews.com%2Fstory%2Fbusiness%2Fautos%2Fford%2F2021%2F03%2F03%2Falleged-ford-ecoboost-engine-defect-strands-owners-draws-lawsuit%2F6815521002%2F)

Delores Allen's 2015 Ford Fusion has been sitting in her driveway, unused, since October.
That's when Allen, 71, says she noticed her engine misfiring. She took the car to a mechanic who said a spark plug was stuck. From there, she ended up at a local Ford dealership, where the issue was diagnosed as a spark plug seized into the cylinder head due to "an internal coolant intermix" — and a proposed fix would cost her thousands.

Proposed fix will cost Ford MILLIONS on warranty and legal fees.

Seems like we get a warranty event daily and just push our customer further away.

Another round of disappointment when resale values of these new and troubled platforms are determined.

Eco boost is a turbo charger. Turbos creat a lot of heat. If the engine isn’t designed to handle the extra heat engine life is reduced substantially.

Ford just be honest with the media and your customers transparency will go a long way to heal the problem

@1zjg,
If you were an engineer or someone who actually worked at Ford or any car company you would know that major component are not thrifted out with MCR actions. It is simply cost prohibitive.

@1zjg,

"Extensive engine testing, thousands of hours, is done in Dearborn under every possible
extreme."
So what. Thousands of indecisive cost cutting meetings are done after all of this testing, and then at the... VERY LAST MINUTE.. changes are ordered from above for the sake of cost cutting.. all of that testing and validation is thrown out the window for the sake of, building on time, and saving a few pennies. This is done over and over again, with the commodities that are in the Ford vehicles. Ford will never learn. If you listen real close, you can hear Toyota laughing.

Extensive engine testing, thousands of hours, is done in Dearborn under every possible extreme.
Trailer testing is done in Colorado and at Davis Dam in Arizona. The video below is of F150 testing but we do similar testing for applicable vehicles with towing packages. The durability testing is done on all vehicles. We, and all car companies test there vehicles to the extremes for the applications they are designed to meet.

You would think there would have been some sort of trailer tow test for Escape with Ecoboost 4. The engine compartment and grill openings are relatively small.

The Fusion does not support towing.

Simple, It met cost targets and Ford, by design, would deny culpability until caught. Savings calculated to be greater than (perceived) liability. The Ford way forward.

Unfortunately this is true. Ecoboost 6 cylinder is great engine but the ecoboost 4 had cooling issues. This was really apparent when towing a small trailer in Colorado. A quality functional lead (now working for GM) worked on a fix but it must not have been good enough.

Not sure how the design made it through validation.

Ha ha ha not a human interest story take note: I worked for ford so I bought a 2017 escape with the tiny eco boost engine. The car was great but the mileage wasn’t that great. After 20,000 miles close engine light comes on. The dealer says the engine is hoses because of the coolant mixing with the engine oil. Six weeks later dealer installs new short block that was redesigned without cylinder sleeves. A new feline motor I was ready to invoke the lemon law and I could have but I worked for the company. What the hell would I have done if this was out of warranty??? Dealer had several similar engine failures. Don’t tell me ford builds quality or it’s the customers fault. I bought vehicle and only used synthetic oil changed every 4K? WTF? The

Really, 5 plaintiff's out of how many thousands of Escapes, Fusions, Edges, and MKC's vehicles sold over multiply years. Not one NHTSA complaint registered for this coolant issue.

Purely a human interest story, with a ambulance chasing law firm trying to make a quick buck.

As for v=rX7wtNOkuHo, what are you six years old?
