Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Thinking of Leaving Chevron

Do you guys know if a resignation notice is due? or are we in Texas considered At Will employees? Any strategy to get some benefits if I want to go independent/consultant?

Agreed. Two week notice is normal, don't stretch it out any longer than that unless Chevron asks you to stick around longer (very unlikely unless you're upper management). Having done this twice in my career, those two weeks are very awkward, it's not a victory lap and definitely not enjoyable. Your peers will look at you strangely, they don't know whether to congratulate you or keep 10 yards away from you. Chevron will be scrutinizing everything you do on your computer. Never burn any bridges when leaving a job. Be professional, be positive, be thankful to Chevron for the experience and opportunity. This is not the time to vent at your boss or co-workers, and no 'advice' you may give is going to change Chevron. Make it a clean break.

You just missed a major window to EOI and get fabulous benefits. Next one may not be for a while unless the Exxon merger rumors pan out.

Word of advice. Always leave a resignation letter if you quit. Make it professional and positive and make it it clear you are leaving on good terms. You will please your management by doing this which will be useful for you in the future. And yes. In Texas you can quit anytime as long as you do not have an employment contract that says you cannot. I take it you are not an officer of the company.
