Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

Hard to start over?

After many years of working at CS, I think I would like to move to a much smaller company. I used to be proud to work here and build a career but lately CS and all of its elitism has become so tiring to me that I can’t wait to leave.
Why am I not leaving yet? Just because at my age it’s hard for me to start over.

Mid 50s people usually sound like they are not all there.

I’m in my mid 50s and moved to a smaller company. Very challenging as there’s material I need to learn. Being at Schwab, I was so specialized that I don’t know what I should know. But if you want to leave, put together a resume. I only put jobs 10 years back and did not put dates on my degrees so hard for hiring manager to pinpoint my age.

You may try Robinhood, or SharesPost, or what about TD Ameritrade. Oh scratch that last one. That ain't one.

Schwab definitely isn’t the place for the ambitious go getter. I joked that you spend your spare time planning your sabbatical, not your career.

Are you looking to move out of the brokerage industry? If so, being with a stagnant company like Schwab won’t hurt as much.

Unfortunately, after many years of working at CS, I don't think anyone will hire you. Especially smaller companies that are looking for highly capable, highly skilled, agile individuals. Many years at Schwab does not transform you into that, and if you were that, you have already lost those traits from being at CS for many years.
